Default T206 UZIT cards....and their 2 levels of scarcity....Show us some UZIT's

My 2 favorite T206 backs are the AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 and the UZIT. American Lithographic printed 74 subjects with these
backs at the tail-end of the T206 press runs (Circa early 1911).
I refer to these T206's as "TWINS", since these 74 subjects appear to have been printed simultaneously with both of these backs.

As rare as these UZIT cards are, listed here are the two levels of scarcity you will typically experience searching for them.

. . . .

Level 1
A total of 60 subjects with the UZIT back have been confirmed as of Jan. 12, 2023.

I am confident that this list of 28 in the 350/460 series is complete as it coincides
with the confirmed list of 350/460 series subjects with AMERICAN BEAUTY 460
backs.

350/460 series......................28 subjects confirmed....COMPLETE

Berger
Bradley (bat)
Burch (fielding)
Cobb (bat off shoulder)
Conroy (bat)
Crawford (bat)
Jennings (one hand)
Jennings (two hands)

Steinfeldt (bat)
Tinker (bat off)
Wagner (bat on right shoulder)
Doc White (pitching)
Wilhelm (bat)
Willetts
Willis (bat)
Wiltse (pitching)

460-only series......................32 of 46 subjects confirmed

Abbaticchio (blue sleeves)
Ball (Cleveland)
Bell (follow thru)
Bergen (catching)
Bridwell (portrait-cap)
Howie Camnitz (arms up)
Harry Camnitz (arms side)
Chance (bat)
Chase (trophy)
Crandall (portrait-cap)
Frill
Geyer
Herzog (Boston)
Hummel
Lake (ball-St Louis)
Latham
Marquard (follow thru)

Schulte (back view)
Seymour (portrait)
Sheckard (glove)

Tinker (bat on)
Wiltse (portrait-cap)

460-only series......................Not yet confirmed

Bescher (hands in air)
Larry Doyle (portrait)
Howell (hand at waist)
Meyers (portrait)
Needham
Payne
Stovall (batting)

Level 2
The most difficult UZIT's to find are in the group which I refer to as the Exclusive 12 in the 460-only Series.
To date, only 5 of these 12 subjects have been discovered with the UZIT back.

* Confirmed

Crandall (cap) *
Devore
Duffy
Ford
Gandil
Geyer *
Hummel *
McGraw (glove at hip) *
Pfeffer
Sheckard (glove) *
Tannehill (Chicago)

Fun post Ted! I only have one on your ‘Level 2’ list (Crandall). To my knowledge, there are two of those. Your McGraw is amazing!!! If you ever sell that, I’m your guy. Hope you’re having a happy/healthy 2023.

Hi Sonny

Nice going with your Crandall / UZIT.

I just need the Crandall / UZIT to complete my Crandall's 13-card run.

My goal is to complete the back run's of all 12 of the Exclusive 12 guys (156 cards total). I'm about 55% of the way there now.

Here is my McGraw run. It is complete with all 13 cards. This McGraw with a UZIT back is a unique T206 (since the late 1970's).

Ted, every time I see your McGraw - Glove back run I am heartened, since I have been undertaking the challenge of trying to do same over many years.

My mission was to get all the backs except the Uzit you hold. I am convinced that your copy is truly one-of-a kind and beyond rare. I currently hold all but the Cycle and the EPDG. It has been sometimes frustrating and even tedious, but I am sticking with it.

My latest acquisition is the Old Mill, an exceptionally rare combo if you check the pop reports, and this copy is special since it has Mugsy's full name on the top of the card with nothing on the bottom. I believe it has been graded a 2.5 but whose counting. And the really nice thing was it was a B/S/T transaction with an upstanding member of the Board.

I feel the same way about the Uzit that Ted has. I dont think I will ever have one to finish by back run. I still would like to get a 215 Pirate and a Red Cross type 2 but they will be hard to get also.

Default T206 UZIT cards....and their 2 levels of scarcity....Show us some UZIT's

My first UZIT. I got it back in the 1980's at the Cooperstown Show
at the VFW Bldg. It cost me only $15. Note the deep blue ink (back).
Many UZIT cards have lighter blue backs.

Great info Ted - it's funny, because finding one of the E12s in an AB.460 is a lot easier than the rest of the 72. Any conjectures why?

Also, is it easier to find a Uzit with a 350/460 back, or is finding a 460 only easier?

Hi Tony

You are correct....the Exclusive 12 subjects are considerably easier to find with the tough Amercan Beauty 460 (AB 460) backs than the other 62 subjects in the AB 460 back run.
I posted a thread regarding these 12 subjects in the 460-only Series years ago. Read all about them by clicking on this thread...... The Exclusive 12

Illustrated here is my concept of an Exclusive 12 printed sheet....based on American Lithographic's 19" wide press, and the standard size 19" x 24" cardboard sheet.

" Where have all the UZIT's gone, long time passing " ....Pete Seeger wrote the first three verses to his famous song (1955)

OK guys..... let's see some of these rarely seen T206 cards.

Wiltse from the 350/460 Series was printed with the UZIT back. UZIT backs are found on 2 different Wiltse cards (pitching pose and portrait/cap).

I will post his portrait card when I find it in my archives.

Thanks guys, for posting your UZIT cards. I am looking forward to more of you chiming in here and displaying your T206 cards with UZIT backs.

Starting in 1911, American Lithograph (ALC) launched their Gold-Bordered series of cards. The T80 cards, depicting worldwide Military subjects,
were one of the first issues. The artwork of the T80's is very distinctive, and their gold borders are quite ornate. By the Spring of 1911, ALC had
concluded their T206 press runs. The last batch of T206's were printed and issued Circa Jan.-March 1911 with AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 and UZIT
backs. And T206 LENOX subjects from Group B of the 350/460 series. Plus, certain subjects from the 460-only series.

T80 cards

T80's were also printed with OLD MILL backs (which are extremely rare to find).

Default T206 UZIT cards....and their 2 levels of scarcity....Show us some UZIT's

As noted in Post #24 regarding the mix of T206 and T80 cards in a UZIT cigarette pack, this was also done with the LENOX cigarette packs.

Both LENOX and UZIT cigarette brands were produced in NYC Factory #30. American Lithographic printed these cards, then shipped them a
short distance to Factory #30.

The T80 cards were printed & issued during the Spring of 1911. The T206 project had reached it's end. The remaining sheets of the 350/460
Series and 460-only Series T206's were printed with LENOX and UZIT backs to be inserted with those two brands.

Hey guys

I really appreciate all the nice words that you have posted here. Plus
all your UZIT cards on display.

Let's not stop here, though, bring on some more of these rare gems.
Perhaps, a new UZIT may be confirmed. There are 14 more subjects
which I expect will eventually be confirmed with the UZIT backs.
