Default Ready for Another Spouse Test?

Last year, in a very entertaining thread, we were asked to administer a "wife test." We were to ask our wives to name every baseball player they could remember, and report the results (which were sometimes amazing or amazingly funny).

Tonight I was watching the end of "Facing Nolan" on Netlfix (a nice documentary, BTW), and she hung around as I watched the last 5 minutes, during which Randy Johnson was being interviewed about Ryan. My wife is a bigger sports fan than most women, and she asked "Is that guy's nickname "The Big Something?" I told her it was "The Big Unit."

This prompted me to ask if she knew what Nolan Ryan's nickname was. Her answer: Big Tex! Which of course led me to ask her to name as many nicknames of baseball players as she could.

Here are the results (with comments):
1. Bambino (Babe Ruth)
2. Showtime (Shohei Ohtani) (with some prompting)

After a long pause, she asked me to name some players so she could try to guess their nicknames. So I mentioned Pete Rose, Lou Gehrig, Reggie Jackson and a couple others. They didn't trigger a response, but she then proudly offered "I know the Vikings are the Purple People Eaters!" Aaaaand, SCENE!

Can your spouse or significant other recite more than 2 nicknames of baseball players? Post your results here!

I asked my wife. I thought she pointed out that she could only name 1. But I was mistaken with the finger she used............

Seriously, she could care less about baseball but she really loves football. Maybe even knows more about football than me actually.

LOL, maybe we should expand this to nicknames for athletes from any sport!

After a lot of thought, she said "I am pretty sure there was someone named "Lefty"". Sigh

My wife got "Shoeless" Joe Jackson. She did say "Babe" Ruth, which I guess is technically, sort of, his nickname.

My wife also said Shoeless Joe and "Babe" Ruth, adding "Cy" Young (referencing Cyclone as the reason for it, which surprised the hell out of me).
She showed her married into Yankee allegiance also adding A-rod, Mr. November for Jeter and The Sandman for Mariano.

Her best response was for another Ruth nickname, The Bronx Bomber

My GF said/reacted, "Stop!!!!!! If you keep asking me stuff I know nothing about, I'm gonna throw your eBay packages in the garbage before you even know they came in the mail!!!!!"
So, zero nicknames...and a newfound knowledge that I really got to start watching my back.

Satchel Paige
Chipper Jones
Babe Ruth
Jackie Robinson
Mookie Betts
AROD
All Rise
Knows that David Ortiz has a famous nick name, but couldn't recall it.

We had a serious debate on what exactly constitutes a "nick name", I told her that most of her guesses are not in the spirit of the question. She didn't care lol.

I had hoped that this thread would not result in threats by, or friction with spouses or significant others!

The "Killer Bs" are Biggio, Bagwell, and possibly Berkman from the Houston Astros in the 1990s. That was a popular way to refer to them down in these parts.

As far as "Spanky," got me. Maybe she meant Sparky?

Ahhh in this case it’s Pittsburgh Pirates killer Bs, with Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonilla and Sid Bream also a few others. As for Spanky the catcher of the Bucs from like 87 to 93. —((( mike LaValliere))) — not a common name but he had a fun cult following during that time.

You learn something everyday. I had never heard that in regards to the Pirates.

I figured by the title someone was going deep into their pocket to buy a card(s). That's the spouse test I usually try to avoid.

'Big Papi' was the only response I got.

Guess it was from my sons and I tossing 'You no Big Papi!' around the house several years ago.

I'm sure she could have gotten some more with a little prodding, but the latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé was waiting.

LOL, nope! This thread really resulted from a conversation that I had with my wife as she stood by watching the last few minutes of a Nolan Ryan documentary (when the Big Unit was being interviewed)!

Lots of spouses with good recall of nicknames, some a lot more obscure than others. But still lots of LOL-entries and perhaps more "gold" to be mined!
