Second October Pick Up Thread

I thought I'd start a new thread with this scorecard from about 1945. The text on the inside is a little fuzzy because I had to compress it to post the images. But it includes a very nice story of Pete Gray's career. The "Barnstorming Colored Giants" roster had no names that I recognize, but several players are listed as members of Satchel Paige's All Star team. |

Lived about 12 miles from Paris the first 21 years of my life. Kinda strange to see that card show up on the board... |

No clue Ed. I picked it up at the Antique show at the state fairgrounds yesterday from a Kansas dealer. Nothing written on the back except the price. |

This guy is the grandfather of a good buddy of mine. Picked this up as a Christmas gift for him - been looking for awhile. I think he will be pleased. |

So you're the culprit Al!!! Nice pickup...I noticed that Hunt's had quite a few items that once belonged to Collins in their last couple of auctions. |

That cabinet came from Hunt's. I just assumed you won it there. Did you get it off of ebay? |

Oh, no, I wasn't being clear. I bought the cab from Hunt, but wasn't aware they had a slug of Collins memorabilia that he once owned. |

I think you can almost bet that this cabinet was owned by him since it is from his college days and it's probably a one of a kind or perhaps only a few were made for he and his family. Add that to the fact Hunt's auctioned off scrapbooks owned by Collins and his wife and it's probably a certaintly. I've noticed Hunt's likes to spread out their collections they get from one auction to the next...they had a nice group of items that belonged to Smokey Joe Wood that they auctioned off over the course of 2-3 auctions. |

That's great Al. I don't know why Hunt's doesn't mention stuff like that in their descriptions, but often times they don't. Collins is my favorite deadball era player and I seriously considered going after that harder, but lucky for you a once in a lifetime panorama came up and I shifted my focus. |
