Default Will “Cannonball” Jackman Autographs?

Posted By: David

How scarce are his signatures? Anyone have an example they would be willing to share?

Sorry to bump this one up, but if anyone has any information on Jackman's autographs it would be of great help.

Probably none exist. From what I understand, no one collected as many baseball autographs as Harold Shigley back in those days, but I've also heard that he didn't pursue Negro League player autographs.

I believe this signature does not exist or has not been discovered yet. If there is one out there, it would be very expensive.

Interesting. How would one go about authenticating an autograph in that case?

. . . to a veteran collector of vintage baseball autographs, who is also quite knowledgable with regards to Negro League autographs. I am hoping that he might be able to provide the information you seek.

Cross your fingers.

Here is the reply I received from the veteran autograph collector whom I thought would be familiar with Will Cannonball Jackman's autograph:

Vincent,

I do not recall ever seeing an example of the autograph you are asking about so I assume it is not an easy name to acquire--that, however, does not make it necessarily valuable, as value is more a function of supply and demand, and I not aware of any heavy demand for his signature.

Not the response I was hoping for. But it is what it is.
Sorry for any false hope I may have instilled.

This is his World War I draft registration card - probably the only signature around.

Default Another Jackman autograph example . . .

Huggins & Scott has an example listed in their September 2009 auction:

Same one. This is the one the original poster owned that he wanted examples to compare to. He consigned it to Huggins and Scott.

I will preface this by saying that the only Jackman signature I had seen was on his World War One draft card. That being said, I think it's still fairly evident that that photo is not signed by Jackman, but rather part of an inscription signed by the mayor. All you have to do is compare the three upper-case W's. They're identical! Therefore, this item correctly reads, "Best Wishes [to] Will Jackman, Kevin H. White" and is not signed by Jackman.
