Default '54 Topps Ernie Banks reprint ?

Tonight's Ebay auction said it was reprint but it looked pretty good to me although I admit I'm no expert. http://www.ebay.com/itm/170993393655...84.m1423.l2648

What do you think ? Or what gives it away as being a reprint ?

It looks too "washed out" to me. You have to look very hard to see the right and bottom borders. I can't see the left border at all.

+1. The colors are definitely washed out, and it looks more like printing quality than actual wear.

Thanks. I've seen quite a few graded washed out Banks cards. So if somebody hadn't told me it was a reprint, not sure I'd have known. Guess when I eventually buy my Banks RC, I better stick to graded.

Looks like this very same card may have been sold in Dec for $30, listed as a reprint. Not a bad return for a reprint.

I purchased mine on eBay a year or so ago. I can't remember exactly what it was, but something about the listing raised some red flags. I think it was either low or no seller feedback, but I thought I would take a chance. After all, I had Buyer Protection and paid with a credit card, so I figured I was covered just in case. I got the card for what I consider a good deal and received it quickly. It was worth the gamle.

I'd say worth the gamble...VERY nice Banks. I also saw the Reprint on Ebay, just didn't look right and I figure if someone even hints or mentions reprint, it has to be. Banks, Mays, and Lasorda are the only "big" cards I need for my 54 set, looks like others here are too...that Banks is a tough one. One recently sold for $176 from a user with low feedback, I backed off, maybe should have gambled...it was nice.

As long as you make sure you're protected, there's not too much to worry about. If something does happen where the seller fails to make good, it may take a couple/few weeks to get your money back, but you will get it back.

And, if the package arrives and you're still feeling uncomfortable, open it up in front of a postal employee.

Great advice on the Postal Employee, never thought of that. I am on pretty friendly terms with my postal gal...

I'm wondering - what is the role of the postal employee? To attest that whatever falls out of the mailer is genuine - or less than? Have you been able to get one of them agree to do that?

Yes, I've had postal employees witness the opening of my packages. No, I've never had to get a statement from one or ask them to testify as everything has always worked out.
