Default Fun With Soaking...

I took a couple of doubles of cards I had upgraded and out of boredom the other night I took the tutorial from here on net54 and soaked a few for fun. Thought I would share a couple of before and afters. I soaked a 55, 60 (sucked), 61 (so-so), 62 (not bad), 3 63 Fleers (um, wow), and a 63 Topps (meh).

Here is the 55, a nice creased Moose -

After a nice bath...wow. I'm sure a crease with chipping would have been different, this was more of a big wrinkle...but it came out amazing.

Here is a nice 63 Maury Wills with a solid crease to the bottom right corner -

Here it is "doctored" lol -

I also did a Jim Kaat and Ken Boyer in the 63 Fleers...wow...they certianly look the best for whatever reason. Turned VG cards into EX. I did notice the "smell" changed a bit, smelled cleaner (for all you card sniffers for authenticity, of which I am one). But after proper pressing very hard to tell.

I really don't care about the ethics of this personally as these are cards that were replaced in my PC, I am not a seller/dealer...and wouldn't trade or sell a card I knowingly soaked without calling it out...but certainly is fun to do when bored. My 63 Fleer set is EX+ with no creases (especially after I replaced those cards, lol), but dang, if I did have a creased card I certainly would be dropping it in the water!

Thought I would share...

Now try to send to PSA to see if they able to catch it.
It's call preservation right? Haha

Ha...I was thinking about turning in my resume' to PWCC...

For the record, I currently don't own a PSA graded card (a few SGC's...) but do have over a hundred tags in a jar...

Interesting. I always thought soaking causes wrinkles, I never knew it could remove them too.

I picked up a few 52 Topps a few months ago, including a Willie Mays with a hideous crease. After a soak, the crease is practically gone. It is a card I will always keep, and it would have been heartbreaking to ruin it, but wow, I sure didn't expect such a dramatic improvement.

So, I have a nice Spahn (BVG 3) that has a surface crease/wrinkle that's about 2 inches long. How do 53 Bowman's hold up under soaking?

I'd like to see as well...

Tere1071....Sorry, I have no idea if a 53 Bowman would work...haven't tried too many. I only showed the success pictures, most improved the card but didn't have the same results (most creases still leave a flush line, might be my lack of skills too). I don't have the nerve to put anything in water I can't throw away to be honest, just having some fun.

Other than the wrinkle it's a nice card and I wouldn't want to damage it. I am attempting to upgrade, but most of the Spahns lack the centering this has.
