One week out -- so far it appears all is going well. This is your reminder to let me know ASAP if any problems in either the giving or receiving part of this fun time!

Default Less than a week...

While the Home Depot gift cards, suit ties, and one year enrollment in the jelly of the month club are all great "Dad gifts," I can say I am genuinely excited to open my secret Santa gift (lower right). Thanks again Rich for making this happen. Hopefully everyone will find some time on Christmas day to post...Excited to see what everyone gets!

PS
immediately after taking this pic my wife buried the unsightly shipping box behind all her perfectly wrapped gifts lol.

Merry Christmas all
Ryan

We have discovered one person, because I screwed up the cut and pastes on the names who may have received two packages.

I have DM'd the person I suspect got extra lucky from Santa and have asked him to put the other collector back on the good list.

The extra lucky person has agreed to send the package to the rightful person AND because that my screw-up I am happy to help him in any way to defray the extra cost (if needed)

Hopefully we can get package #2 to the right person by Xmas Day (or just slightly thereafter)

Rich

I'm sorry for the Cycle Back way of back to back posts but one of our group of 22 was way too nice and sent me a small package which I just received.

There was NO Need for that as I had the time this year to do this (i.e. off from work today) but I so appreciate the extra effort to get my address and send me a goodie -- I'll be sure to share that on Xmas day

Rich

Get the wrapping paper out and make it presentable.

Then put it back in front.

Well I'm glad I said something. I will check with the person who was the giftee and if so, they will get on the way

I opened up the package as per the sender and thankfully it was something for me and NOT the Secret Santa gift.

So all is well.

Just a very minor note, while I will monitor this as I have done, I'm leading services for my synagogue (Adat Chaverim in Plano) tomorrow night and thus will not be available to lurk between 7-9 PM Central on the 24th. But we have a nice group of people and I'm so looking forward to seeing what everyone receives and gave!

I decided to open the Secret Santa package tonight.

Santa provided a nice touch by individually wrapping six mini-packages and placing them in the box. It was like opening wax packs.

Each of the mini-packages had its own theme, which added to the fun. Here are before and after photos of the opening.

Thank you, Santa. This was a wonderful gift. I truly appreciate everything. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Don't have access to the cards, as I am out of state, but I received a T205 of Cubs outfielder Jimmy Sheckard and an autographed Upper Deck card of the guy in my avatar, Cubs legend Ron Santo! Got several other Cubs cards and memorabilia including cards of Banks, Jenkins, Reuschel, and Sandberg.

Also got three cards of a left handed catcher who was in the Cubs organization once upon a time. Merry Christmas, Santa! 😀😃🙂

Happy holidays to all the board members. May all your cards be centered and all of your corners be sharp!

You know, left handed catchers are rare. Might have some intrinsic value in themselves. LOL

I got a really cool game program with a Ernie Banks signiature and other autographs on the outside that probably date the game in 1973 or 74. Also got a hodgepodge of memorabilia fron the 1800, game ticket from 1910, and a few other things. Very nice selection. Thank you Santa!

I received a great bundle of deadball related items, several of which have a Black Sox angle, including:

- T218 of boxer Abe Attell - served as a go-between gamblers and Black Sox players.

- T202 McBride/Milan Schaefer on First - has been identified as potentially a 2nd card of Joe Jackson in the T202 set, as seen in this thread:

https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=268250

and the section of the original T202 Joe Jackson thread that pertains to this card:

https://www.net54baseball.com/showth...263#post818263

- A 1920 Oakland newspaper with an article discussing the Black Sox scandal, as well as two separate articles on PCL player scandals that eventually ended in banishment for those involved.

- The Annotated Baseball Stories of Ring W. Lardner 1914-1919. He was one of the first journalist to raise red flags about the 1919 World Series, even as it was going on. I have liked what I have read from Ring in the past, a particular favorite was the short story "Hair Cut". While not baseball related, it has a great unreliable barber narrator that is relaying to his customers what a great person a recently deceased townsperson was, while all the things this person did could be considered completely reprehensible. Looking forward to reading his baseball works included, and the book has plenty of photos of deadball players too.

Also included was a Sport magazine from 1949 featuring a cover of Christy Mathewson, and a Curtis Candy ad card mentioning Baby Ruth candy.

A fun tidbit I discovered when checking on the ad card was that the Baby Ruth candy bar was first introduced in 1921 to capitalize on the popularity of Babe Ruth, but when the Babe got involved in 1926 to come out with a bar named "Ruth's Home Run Candy" with his image on the wrapper, the Curtiss Company sued, indicating with a farfetched statement that their Baby Ruth bar was actually named after Ruth, the oldest daughter of former President Grover Cleveland (even though Ruth had died in 1904), and that Babe Ruth's candy was a copyright infringement that was trying to capitalize on the popularity of the Baby Ruth bar. The ironic outcome is that a patent court years later ruled in favor of the Curtiss Company.

All in all a fun bunch that came down the chimney...thanks Secret Santa!

Brian

I let him open the blaster box of football cards, while i did the individual packs.
He loved pulling all those rookie cards. I was also thriled to see how the new shiny stuff looks these days.

Santa blessed me with a Knight, a Blimp, Eddie's personnel Doctor & E121 error card.

I'm very thankful for my Santa, the amazing members of Net54 & Rich for organizing this fun experience.

Interesting side note, they all died young and under interesting circumstances.

Some really nice additions to my collection, many thanks to my S. Santa. The Abe Attell card was cool but the 8 X 10 reproduction of the 1`st Black Sox confessions is awesome. Not only does it look great but it the perfect compliment to the real Boston Post Newspaper from Sept. 1920 that hangs framed in my hobby room. Thanks again Santa and of course, Big Rich for all the organizational effort !!

TY all for the nice words, I'm grateful that there were several people in our group who had done this before and did a great job guiding me.

Seems like all went reasonably well and with any luck we'll do this again next year as I learned how to run this event

Rich
