Default 1933 Goudey Cut Auto DIY

Hey everyone,

I had a quick question. I have a marked 1933 Goudey card that someone wrote the number 4 right on the middle front of the card. I also recently acquired a nice auto of this player on standard paper. I was wanting to cut the auto and apply it to the 33 Goudey to cover the 4, two birds with one stone and all that.

My question is, how would this get authenticated by PSA or SGC? As a cut auto, or as a 1933 Goudey auto? I assume cut, but I can't find anything quite like it.

Thanks!

I don't think applying the auto actually to the card is how you're supposed to do it.

I've seen how the Historic Autographs do it with Goudey, but it's all contained in a custom card which I don't like. I was hoping just to apply the auto directly to the Goudey and cover the mark.

I'm open to whatever if there is a better idea.

Here is the mockup, not sure on the size of the auto yet, but this should give an adequate visual representation of what I'm trying to do.

Nobody will authenticate that as a 1933 Goudey Auto.

Right, I expect that. I was just wondering if it would be a "cut" or "trading card" when it gets authenticated. I just like how that looks.

There is a guy on Sportscollectors.net, jsam202, that does custom cut autos like this. Here is a photo of some of his work:

In cases where the "cut auto" is graded, they are not speaking to anything else that may have happened to make it into the slab. I'm guessing that is just done as a courtesy.

Great looking Dizzy! I'll expect mine to be authenticated as a cut then as well. It's going to look really sharp on the Goudey Judge.

Confirmed, it was authenticated as a cut. I'll post pics when it gets here.

That's how to do it! I have a Luke Sewell that has "22" on it. I might consider something like what you've done.

Thanks all! I'm definitely happy with the outcome. I tracked down some archival safe double sided tape to adhere it. It covered up the "4" that was written on the front in ball point pen quite nicely.

..displays really well ; great idea : two birds , one stone ; You have a lot of us out here considering this option , this solution :--- do you know the graders' minimum , or preferred optimum , acceptable size of "the cut" ?--- I'm asking because there are so many different card sizes as well as cuts whose sizes can be somewhat shaped to what looks good on the final product ; --but once the cut is re-shaped it's sort of final.

..In my own selfish personal case I've been thinking that I'd like to have this card and this cut done into a similar piece/item like that little masterpiece you had created.
