I know the general consensus is the 52 set can't be outdone but IMO this is the best set Topps ever produced. Only have a few but can't wait to post. The Campy to me is one of the best looking cards ever made.

I had never been interested in this set for years...until I started picking some up. I truly have a huge appreciation now...just artwork. I've got a lot of work to do to complete, but really am enjoying the journey. This thread makes it more fun...

Fred your cards look fantastic. How did you keep those corners so sharp all these years?!

The '53s my dad gave me are pretty beat up. Brooklyn Dodgers were his favorite, so they got the brunt of it.

Clem Labine lived in Woonsocket, a couple blocks from where my mom and her siblings grew up. Here he is with a group of neighborhood kids. He has his arm around my uncle Michael, who looks to be about 4 or 5, which would date this picture to about 1960.

I'm not sure what the cast was for. It is on his pitching arm, though.

Looked up Bobo to see if the "16" on my card was his uniform number...nope, he wore #12. Interesting career...played in the 20's and in 4 decades, won 211 games, BUT lost 222! Was a 20 game winner twice...BUT lost 20 games in a season 3 times! Played for 9 of the 16 different teams and in 1943 played for 3! Bobo saw a lot of baseball and played against a lot of historical players, and lived through a lot of history...

I guess I was just quite careful w/ them--We never played "pitch" or even did much trading in my area. i bought cards, opened packs & sorted them out and then stored them away in cigar boxes.

Most all my cards from 1950 thru 1954 are in similar condition, and most all my '53's show almost no chipping in the Red or Black name panels, which is an easy way to tell/see wear on a '53 Topps card..

Greg Morris just sold this card for $157.50!?

I know the buyer is nobody on this thread because we are already past card #4, but anyone have a theory on why the $$$ are so high? Card was listed as NM.

AWW Nuts! This one is off-center!

(But my whole set has never had a single upgrade--they are just as they came from the packs I opened)
