Hi everyone.

Ok, I just looked through about 400 T206 and I don't have one of these guys. Why? I didn't think these were uncommon, but when I have a uzit without one of these, I have to wonder.

I tried to catalog all the T206s backs that went thru my hands in about a 2 year stretch, there was over 600 and only four of the above mentioned backs, only 20 total SC 460 backs, almost evenly distributed among teh 4 different possible backs.

I still have 4 of them but oddly 3 have glue stains.

How about the other people that collect T206s? let's have some numbers.
Let the frenzy begin.

Lee

Checking out the backs on my set, I noticed that I also don't have a Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25. Over 500 cards with many different backs, but not that one. So much for being a common back.

I've got 206 t206's (hadn't even realized I was on the "magic" number!) in my collection spreadsheet. Of those, 30 are SC, and 3 of those are 350-460/Fact 25. Of course, that's based on the spreadsheet. I'll go upstairs later and pull the cards to double-check, but I'm usually pretty good about recording the backs accurately.

Be nice if they were rare, since two of them are Gandil and Johnson (pitching), but it's not like I'm ever going to sell them anyway.

The Sweet Cap 350-460 Fact 25 is by far the toughest Sw Cap back, but It's still not that tough. I have over 20, and they routinely show up on EBAY every week. Be well Brian

A year or so ago i noticed they were tough while going thru my cards so when i went to a Fort Washington show later that month i found 3 there,2 hall of famers and i probably looked thru 400 t206s there.I believe i have 3 of them, but that number could be a little higher

In an effort to give my low grade T206 collection a hint of credibility (and to contribute something positive to the board), I hereby present the only Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25 back I own!

Most think the Sweet Cap. 350-460 fact. 42 is the most difficult but the fact. 25 is much harder. I have 10 examples and have got all except 2 from ebay. Just got a Evers in the most latest Hunts auction.
I concider this a rare back but most don't because of the "Sweet Cap".

Of the 512 cards in my set, four of them are the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25. If you are collecting a list, my four include the following:
Donlin, batting
Doyle, NY Nat'l, batting
Kleinow, Boston
Snodgrass, catching.

Cheers, Mike

Of the 400 or so T206's I own, 21 of them are Sweet Caporal 350-460 series. The breakdown--
Factory #25 -- 4 (Chase-portrait,blue;Snodgrass-catching;Street-catching;Griffith-bat off)
Factory #30 -- 8
Factory #42 -- 6
Factory #42 overprint -- 3

Just out of curosity how many Sweet Caporal 150 subjects Factory 649 overprints do y'all have. I have one, Ritchey.

Thanks for the info.
This really surprises me actually. I know the back is not rare, but it obviously changes how I rank the different backs.

Out of the 493 T-206s that I have, 21 are Sweet Caporal 350-460 series. Out of those 21, 3 are from factory 25 (Donlin batting, Elberfield fielding, and Herzog Boston Nat'l). Of the other 18, 5 are from factory 30, 6 are from factory 42 with the scroll, and the remaining 7 are from factory 42 without the scroll. Perhaps the factory 25s are tougher than imagined.

As for another tough factory, I have only 1 card out of 25 Piedmont backs from the 350-460 series that I own with a factory 42 designation (Cy Young glove showing pose).

Hope that info is useful.

I'll do a more detailed breakdown later, but my Johnson pitching is a SC 350-460 fact. 25. That's the third one just in this thread. Does anybody have a Sweet Cap Johnson Pitching that is NOT fact. 25.

As a follow-up to the 3 Sweet Cap 350-460 25's that I have, these are the other Sweet Cap 350-460's:
Factory 42 (2):
Chick Gandil
John McGraw Glove at Hip
Factory 42OP (9):
Red Ames Hands Over Head
Frank Chance Batting
Clark Griffith Batting
Hughie Jennings Both Hands Showing
Red Kleinow Boston
Orval Overall Hands at Waist
Ed Reulbach No Glove
Harry Steinfeld with Bat
Cy Young Glove Shows
Factory 30 (8):
Ed Abbaticchio-Blue Sleeves
Bob Bescher Hands in Air
Hal Chase with Trophy
Russ Ford
Harry Howell Hands at Waist
Joe Lake Ball in Hand
Red Murray Portrait
Francis Pfeffer

For anyone who is interested, Jim Novotny and I have put together an excel spreadsheet that lists the possible backs/ T206 card combinations and references both to the Standard Catalog and to Beckett. This is how we track our cards and can easily see which cards, which back, etc. We'll share with anyone who's interested.

2 350-450 factory 42s (Herzog, Boston; Willis, followthrough); one 350-450 factory 30 (Merkle)--for whatever that's worth.

Incidentally, many more Piedmonts than Sweet Caps, and a bunch of the lesser slightly scarce backs.

While I have no 350-460 Factory No. 25 backs at all, I noticed while looking through mine that one of the scrolled overprints I have missed the mark so badly, you can still see the Factory 30 designation about an eighth of an inch above the scroll, with the overprint Factory 42 designation below the border right at the card edge. While Factory 30 is listed as a back for series 350-460, why would they overprint them for Factory 42? Factory 42 did more business and ran out? Factory 30 went under while still in the midst of the series?

...I've been through about 450 cards of my collection and I have one SC 35-460 (Fact. 25 2d Dist. VA): a Stahl with glove showing in good condition -- I'd love to trade it, by the way, since it is one of my doubles. I have 67 cards out at SGC at the moment, so it's possible I have another, but I guess it is unlikely. Ironically, I found this one within the first four cards that I checked -- thought I'd have 10 or more, but alas, just the one

Hi Ed,

mine all are (all 3 of them)--why is that? Was there a last minute change? The 42s happen to be two of my nicest T206s--any known reason for their being better protected or preserved? I know it's hard to tell ANYTHING with such a small sample. But with 44, I do feel surprised that there are more Piedmonts than Sweet Caps.

If I don't watch out, I'm going to get interested in this set again...

My contribution to the discussion:

Out of a scant 47 T206s, only one 35-460, factory 42 with that scroll line - it's Pelty, St Louis Americans (vertical).

I've got a total of 11 SC series 350-460 cards. But seven are not with the stike through, or scroll. Only four have the scroll. Two without the scroll are for Factory 30, the other five, along with all four with the scroll are for Factory 42. Guess my thought was always that those with the scroll were more scarce, since I didn't have as many. WHat is the make up of everyone else's collection like, in terms of scrolled vs. non-scrolled SC series 350-460s?

I have 550 T206s and only 10 have Sweet Caporal 350-460 backs. Four are Factory 30, one is Factory 42, and the other five are Factory 42 Overprint. Obviously the Factory 25 is the tough one to find. Always interested in learning more about the "Monster".

Out of my t206 cards I have one Sweet Caporal 350-460 subject Factory 25. It is of Home Run Baker - and SGC 20 BTW. Interesting to know that these backs are this hard to find. I just love finding out new stuff.

Obviously, T206 Museum has this back placed wrong as far as scarcity. They have it about 34th. I have over 200 Sovereign, Cycle, Polar Bear, Tolstoi, EPDG in my set, but no Sweet Cap. 350-460 Factory No. 25.

I have about 510 T206s, 3 have the SC 350-460 factory 25 markings. They are:

Baker, Philadelphia
Griffith, Cincinnati batting
Oldring, Philadelphia batting

This is to the T206 Museum back scarcity page:

http://www.t206museum.com/page/ch_scbklt.html

It is a list of the various backs, in order of scarcity. I'm thinking they may well have their list in need of revision. Anyone know who runs the site, do they hang out here? And where did they get their information?

Are there other T206 back scarcity lists that may be more correct?

Frank.

Just went through my T206 set expecting to find not very many of the Factory 25 variation and was surprised to find 13 of them. For anybody who is doing some stats here are the player that have with that backing.

Lajoie-throwing
Killian-pitching
Oberlinn
Flanagan
John Barry
Thomas
Stoval
Raymond
Reulback-honds on side
Hoblitzel
Cree

plentiful as T206s--we might have found closer to home. Could the location of the collector in relation to the location of the factory have anything to do with it?
