Note how similar the "M" in Max and also in Mickey. I think the same person wrote both names and it wasn't Mantle. Kind of looks like a kid trying to copy Mantle's autograph, not necessarily maliciously.

That's what I was thinking, although if it was done during the era, I'm not sure how they would know what Mantle's signature looked like.

Mantle played in about 100 games in 1951, and as much as he was heralded maybe some kid copied it from a card or another scorecard or autograph. It is certainly " characteristic"( note the quotes ) of Mantle's vintage signature, but it is not his signature.

Copied from Mantle facsimile autos appearing on some YS premiums as well as bats. Not really close to his authentic rookie auto.
