Default still buy current cards?

Past couple of years getting back into cards if I don't just buy the set and throw it on a shelf...I'll buy a few inexpensive varieties of topps from Target for $20 since I don't have a shop nearby..rip em. Put em in pages. Throw it on shelf.
Do you still buy new? I'm not concerned with hits personally If they show up cool..

I buy some of the current cards. Usually Topps Platinum, but this year I bought some of the Valor too. Fun sets, but rarely worth what I have into them buying at retail. (And I haven't completed any yet. )

I don't have them organized much, but have a decent pile of extras to swap.

Default local shop pulls

I stopped into my local shop today (Main Street Sportscards) in Winooski, VT and saw a guy buy about 10 packs of 2015 Topps Baseball. He pulled a redemption card for a signed Mike Trout!!!

He then switched up and bought about 10 packs of chrome maybe? and he got a Jeter numbered to 25!!!!!

I then thought, damn, I wished I had bought those! You never know.

Pretty cool to see though.

Peace, Mike

Usually I don't finish the set either. I like to switch it up from vintage every so often and see what's new.

Others pull stuff like that. not me.. The only time i've gotten a redemption card.. took a while to get it but this is what i got..

I'm not sure if the guy is still playing or not...

Default ouch!

That is a problem with redemptions, they take forever and in some cases, the company has to give you "fair" value since the player never signs for whatever reason. This never ends well for the consumer!

I have been doing the Topps Chrome for the last several years. A lot of fun to just rip open the packs, but I don't seem to get that big hit either. I put the set together then on the shelf it goes.Tons of unorganized extra cards. I tried to do all the inserts one year, but Topps just puts way to many in the set for me.

My son and I bust a box every now and then. If we pull something either of us wants to keep we do, otherwise we take the cards to as local show or I list them on ebay and use the proceeds to buy the next box. Very rarely do we get anything good but it's still fun. Thrill of the hunt sort of thing.

I bought a pack of Panini Prism which looks like chrome..to me anyway..they put some players in there from past like Frank Gifford, Fran Tarkenton, to name a couple..to spark interest in the younger crowd I assume. I mainly stick to topps to put together the set as much as possible and keep up with the new guys.

Its great y'all do it together... My wife is pretty good about me spending a buck here and there on my hobby/interests.

I usually snag a few packs when at Target out of habit.

Just like ripping packs and looking through the players.

It's a hard habit to break!

I'm pretty sure the last pack I bought was in the mid 80s. I always check out what they have when I go to Target though, but unlike Jeff, I've been too cheap to pull the trigger on anything . I guess part of me always thinks - where am I going to put these once I open them?, Do I really need another project?, etc. If I had seen those 2009 Chicles on a shelf though - I'm sure I would've been compelled to buy some packs.

I'm fairly late to the game I reckon. I was just starting in the mid 80's..my interest has peaked the last few years whether from watching games, or just nostalgia I'm not sure.
