Default Looking for 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 1

I am only looking for this graded PSA 1. I would like it with no paper loss and a clean shot of the head. I would like to buy this off of here rather than ebay. To many shady people there. Any help would be great.

Thanks, Joe

Default 1952 Mantle

Pin Hole or Staple Hole....but you will pay a premium probably a PSA 2 or 3 price. Good Luck

A Psa '3' appearance card for a PSA '1' price.....that is a novel idea......don't we all want that kind of card!

Here is a pic of my Aaron rookie. Don't know why a 52 Topps Mantle isnt possible in the same condition.

A 1952 Topps Mantle is by FAR a more desired card. If the card is a decent looking 1, you can rest assured it is already locked away in a collection, or you will have to pay an upgrade premium if the card looks better than its' grade.

My advice, Joe: Consider the source and don't worry about it.

Good luck in your search.

Wasn't giving you a hard time......just pointing out that the search might be futile. There was an awesome '2' that ended last night for $5,500. That would have been a good one! That is around the money you are going to have to pay for your reguirments to be met. You might can get it less if it is missing a corner or something. Do you have to have it get a numerical PSA grade, or would you be ok with "AUTHENTIC"? Either way, I will keep my eyes open!

...and Rob...you are one to talk!

I would love to have a 1. As for "authentic", not to sure about that. Would that mean that the card would have been altered? Really not into that.

There's a somewhat decent "1" in the current Goodwin auction. I'm not quite sure what a clean headshot means, but this one does not have major creasing running through the card:

The one in the goodwin auction would be perfect. I tried to register but it says you need 2 references. Not really sure what that means. I will keep trying. The one on ebay is nothing that I would be interested in. I would like one that I am going to buy to have a back.

Thanks for the heads up.

I am sure you are familiar with 707 Sports Cards, but he has a really nice PSA 1 with a clean back. (he has a few PSA 1's listed)

BTW, I have nothing to do with 707, I was looking at something else on his site and remembered reading this thread.

Default I have a really nice Mantle for sale

It may be exactly what you are looking for. Pretty much mint except for a small scratch on blue background but the card has great corners, excellent colors, and no creases at all. Only problem is a small scuff on blue background.

Let me know if you want photos or have interest.

Garet

Garet, I am interested. You can email me pics at curch@epix.net

I did contact 707. I think they are a little high for what they have on the PSA 1's.

Thanks, Joe

The 2 references usually means any other auction houses with which you've registered and/or purchased. The idea is for the auctioneer to gain some assuredness that you are who you are and that you're going to be able to pay should you win. The problem I initially found was that if all the major auction houses require two references, then how do you get "in the door" in the first place -- but fortunately some only require one reference, or may accept one's EBay account.

I'm curious about this as well. I've thought of bidding on an auction lot, but don't know about the reference deal. I have done numerous BST deals with members, but nowhere near enough to ask somebody to be my reference.

Default auction house references

I'm trying to remember the sequence that I went through. I think I started with Clean Sweep Auctions, which is based out of Long Island. They deal with memorabilia (eg signed baseball) as well as cards, mostly low-to-mid level items (nothing in that ridiculous high-end that makes the cover of the bigger boys). I don't think that they required any references. I think my next step was Hunt Auctions; they might also not require any references. They also cover cards as well as memorabilia; I find their selection extensive and also will include some higher-quality cards (ie expensive enough to have fun browsing at but not to be able to bid on) as well as low-quality of high-interest items (such as your elusive 1952 Topps Mantle). Having won items from both of them, I think that was all I needed for references for the other auctions houses (Heritage, B&L, etc.), although I may have utilized the reference before completing a purchase.
Best of luck,

I know Bill G. personally (as I'm sure many on here do). I've always found him to be extremely reasonable. I'd recommend that you contact him, explain your interest and show him that you're serious.

I'd bet he'll grant you a login to bid on the item.

.....and if I can help you in anyway, send me a note.

Regards,
Scott

your 2 refs can be an ebay id (good standing of course) and another known collector that will vouch for you. with most of these houses if you just call them to show you're serious and have a solid reference you're in.
