Default ‘73 Topps color variation

Sorry if this is already been covered in detail before, I know there was a similar thread a while back discussing variations on manager / coach cards.

Am I the only one that hadn’t noticed this? The picture looks totally different...

That seemed to happen a lot with 1973's. I always just figured it was different times in the print run. If it's printed early in the run, there is lots of ink and everything is a bit too dark. Later on in the run, everything is starting to look washed out as the ink becomes depleted.

Interesting. Side-by-side, the Fisk I have on the right here looks more realistic in terms of the coloring on his face. The darker one just looks too gray. I've seen the "darker variation" in grades as high as PSA 9 before though.
