Ok, it is seriously time to consider moving to another host. Network54 has a pop up that keeps appearing about 5 mminutes into me accessing the site with an ad for a Network54 Entry Pass. It just sits with a flashing "loading" thing and links to sign up. You cannot do anything until you either click the link or exit your browser.

Pop ups are babd enough, but pop ups that trap you like that are grounds for leaving immediately. I don't like being held hostage for any reason.

Jay

I would be more that willing to contribute monthly dues towards a new host. I know many people who want to post here but rarely even come by to read threads due to the Pop Ups.

I think PSA has a board we can use, it is called collectors universe or "CU" I believe. Dan.

Have you guys tried any of the Pop Up blockers? Bob ran a thread on it a couple weeks ago (currently it's on page four of this network) and since I downloaded it I hardly get any.

The pop-up blocker does the trick for me too.

As to the hosting issue I don't know if we "need" a new one or not.
However, I do know that we should express our appreciatiion and gratitude to Elliot for his time and efforts in establishing and maintaining this "home" for us even if we may have outgrown it.

It's not the usual pop up ad this time.
It's a net54 banner that covers a good chunk of forum content area and ask you to download some kind of software (which btw I don't plan to download)to resume using the board.

I don't care about pop up ads, but this is getting absurd.

I'm not getting the pop-up you're talking about. Do you login before entering the site? I do not. If you do, I wonder if that has anything to do with it??????

Whenever someone says 'host', the movie Alien comes to mind. One alien is enough for me.

My theory has been that if superinteligent life on a far away planet had a petrie dish and the DNA recipe to make a dog, but had never seen a picture of dog, this is what they might come up with.

Don't think is a login issue.
I never login unless I need to post a scan.

Think net54 is testing the banner thing for now, since it doesn't show every time I enter the site.

Some of us can't touch our work computers and install pop up blocker, not that I would ever surf the net at work.

If you have AOL 8.0 or 9.0 your pop-up problems are gone. This is probably the only time AOL has been user friendly. I tried all the pop up blockers mentioned on this board and none of them worked. I was shocked when AOL's new software took care of all of them.

I have both a pop-up blocker and AOL 9.0 and while 99% of the pop-up's are blocked, I still get a few. I also bought a software package that cleans up the cookies, files, memory, etc - called Spyhunter. It's really scary how many applications were observing where and when I was surfing the web (not that I was doing anything ilicit). Many of these applications that this program removed stored pop-ups on my computer that launched at a pre-determined time or whenever I moved to a new web-site. It did cost $30 but I feel it was worth it. (It cleaned off over 150 "intruder" type cookies/applications off of my hard drive). It really pisses you off when you see these intrusions to your privacy.

I run 2 different pop up blockers because the ad people are workign to get around these things and this new Network54 thing is the only one that is getting by.

I appreciate all the work Elliot has done, but it is time to move to a more user friendly host and one where the archives are searchable. Far too much valuable information is posted here to 'lost' under a thousand other threads. I am more than willing to pay a small monthly fee if needed for a good host site. The cost isn't much either. I'll check with my gaming friends what host they use, but the annual fee is only about $50 or so.

I've spent a total of about 15 minutes here today and got that pop up 5 times. And I even updated my pop up stoppers.

I have a decent pop up blocker but some get through.
The latest one the everyone was talking about messed
up link to this site a few times. And it locked
my work computer today. This is why I don't visit
as often as I would like.
