Default Net54 Designated Chat Time

Hey everyone, just had some fun talking to some board members using the chat. I NEVER see anyone on it, so it's a shame. It's great how it allows the members to get in touch with each other, and allow deals to go through even faster. Maybe we can utilize the chat more often, and designate a certain time, discussing hobby issues, current events, recent pickups, O/T stuff, etc. Just an idea, let me know how you feel. It does not always have to be at a certain time, but I believe that we will have the largest group chats if we plan for a certain time for it to take place.

I think this is a great idea, I would be up for chat anytime. I am an Old timer now, my memories goes back to the Brooklyn Dodgers, My Dad took me to Ebbets field in 1949 I saw the Dodgers VS cardinals. Joe hatten VS Howie pollet & Yes the man hit a Homer. the game ended in a 4-4 tie, the cards had to make a train to play the braves.

I also like the chat area. The problem (at least for me) is that 80% of the time I'm on Net54 is on my iPhone and it doesn't support the room..

It enjoy hearing great stories! Androids are rough to use on net54, but maybe everyone can use their computer at the designated time? I dont know, i understand a lot of members travel and work, so they do not always have computer access. It's worth a shot though!

It only takes two to tango (or chat), but the idea of negotiating a trade or purchase in a chat room with 96 ears is mind boggling.......unless of course we started conducting live chat auctions, sort of a Sotheby54 if you will. Just a thought.

I am game for some chatting in the room if I can get my password to work ......The company that hosts that chat room (it's different than our regular one) has almost as many problems as our last regular hosting company. It's really good s/w when it's working correctly and I don't know a more fun time on the board than the last night of the REA auctions, when there are 30-50 members in there at once.

I'd say any time is fine as long as it's announced before hand, like a day before hand. I'm flexible and have a computer at home at work.

Just remember that I live on the West Coast and 6pm EST would be 3 my time.

So long as my schedule permits, any day/time this board is willing to get together and chat on a regular basis, I am happy to log in and participate.

Advance notice would be helpful for clearing time on my calendar to do so.

All the best,

Eric

Default Additional chat access

I'd use it if it worked for more devices as well. Like Reg, I'm often on a phone or other mobile device and its out to lunch. I tried to join the T205 chat the other night from my iPad but it didn't work. Not sure if it was Safari or IOS or the combination, but no joy.

Haven't used chat much even when on my home computer, but if the topic is interesting, I'd be there.

You need to be able to use flash, I have browser named Photon, available through the App Store, that allows you to enable flash.

You can't download flash player on the iPad, Jobs didn't like it.

Jobs won and Adobe is turning to HTML5 for mobile.

Now all need to do is find a perfect time for all of us. I mean, weekend days/Friday night seem to work, rather than during the week.

Default Sundays

Sunday night seems like it would work well. Lots of ebay auctions end on Sunday night so a few of us are hanging around our computers anyway. Another option is every day at a designated time. Not many people would be on any given day, but I think it would get used most days.

I'm glad this was initiated. To be honest I didn't even know of a chat option on here until now. I think the evenings are best.

You shouldn't have to register separately for the chat room. It should be the same info as the forum. I sent a message to the folks that host it about a password reset last night. They are in Korea or some far away country and aren't timely. I have no idea when they will get back to me though it's usually within a day or two. If I can get my admin to working I should be able to help others. We actually did quite a bit of investigating before choosing that chat s/w and it's pretty good when it works. You would think chat s/w would be pretty easy and basic but it's not. (from what we found a few years ago, maybe things have changed now....not sure)....LL

Default chat room update.

Leon,

I've tried everything I know but can't get the chat room to open. I even tried to register with a different ID and password but all I got from the register button was an error message. I always assumed that once I was logged on to the forum, that all its functions would be available. Is there something I'm not doing that is obvious to everyone? I click on the Chat link and the chat box appears but it is not active. It says "language loading" then stops and a center box says "name is not available".

Maybe your handle is too long for the chat room software.

Default Finally got in the chat room

A big shout out to Frank Burkett who suggested my user name was too long as the reason i could not get into the chat room.. Shortened it by more than 1/2 and got right.

Thanks also to Leon for quickly assisting with the change of user name.
For those still having problems getting in the chat room, if your user name is long, that likely is the issue,

John

Default Apologies

To Mr. Burkett, my sincere apologies for the ID mixup. Ever since I went on social security, my prefrontal cortex seems to have partially shut down. Would have been simple to check to see if I had the right Frank. At any rate, though, thanks for your suggestion and hope it helps others who may have had the same problem.
