1955 Topps Stamps
Posted By: Dave Hornish
OK, I do not own any of these but I know of 2 or 3 board members that do. I can't help but think they are related to the Sports Illustrated inserts from '54 and '55. Topps may have been experimenting with a stamp issue (not necessarily baseball) to test the medium and may have just used a partial section of an existing sheet to make up the stamp proofs. I cannot find too many Topps stamp issues from the 50's (perhaps the X Ray Roundup Stamps are a Topps issue but that is not a conclusive fact) so these are even more of a mystery. |

Anyone have a guess as to what a Hank Aaron stamp would be worth? I know one exists. |

I think 2500 is way low. It should be worth the same as a 61 Dice Game or more. Years ago, I heard that a Banks exists, but it is not catalogued. |

Sadly, few of us will ever be presented with that choice. |

Edited for ignorance. I read up and found the answer to my question. |

Resurrecting this thread-I have been sussing out the stamp arrangement from a couple of partial sheets of regular issue cards and have reason to believe 40 or 50 subjects are possible. The discussion above mentioning possible Aaron and Banks stamps would fit my observations.
Any scans would be great, even the block of Shepard, Skinner, Tremel & Valentine that has made the rounds. I'll take rumors of unchecklisted stamps too. PM details me if you want to keep your name out of it. Last edited by toppcat; 12-30-2011 at 11:03 PM. |

Aaron
Dave---my recollection may be faulty but I think Bob F and I both saw a scan of an Aaron stamp a few years back. If I am right, it was in poor shape and the asking price too high, but I will check with Bob to see if that is what he recalls. Maybe Larry saw it as well
