Questions: AVA Confections multi-sport set
Does anyone have any cards from or know anything about the AVA Confections set?
I know its a multi-sport set from Australia (my home country) and there is a basketball card in the set. I think its 1950s. The only card I've found is a Lacrosse one (below). |

The football card is mine. The Ava set has a Circa 1950 associated with it.
Meaning no one really knows the exact year of publication. Generally accepted as 1950. In the Aust and NZ Index Book 2, produced by the Cart Soc of GB, is stated a 10 card set, of sports played in Aust, it has a mention of cricket, so assuming one of the 10 is cricket. Hope this helps |

These are not my cards, I only have the basketball. However, for the group knowledge these are the remaining cards not shown.

I have no clue as to identities.
Many (Basketball, Cricket, Tennis) seem to be posed shots in a random field and do not match traditional playing surfaces at all. The basketball player actually looks like he could possibly be wearing cleats even. I collect vintage basketball and oddballs, so that card appealed to me. The rarity of available copies suggest this is seemingly a condition sensitive issue likely due to it's child directed distribution channels. I have not seen any copies that were not in rough condition. They are also quite small on thinner stock, roughly 2.5" high by 1 and 6/8" wide.

I've managed to get a copy of the basketball card but had never seen the whole set.
I'd like to confirm the date so i can get the basketball card graded. PS. I'm from Australia so this is especially cool card if it turns out to be the first basketball card issued in Australia. |
