Default 1923 Maple Crispette (#15 Casey Stengel)

Posted By: base2base

O.k. I'm very close to full set now (1923 Maple Crispette) and I know theres only one known (#15 Casey Stengel).... But is there any known photo of this one of a kind???

And what do you think (#15 Casey Stengel) would sell for?

Here's some very good info on these cards.

Don't know if Eric's web site has changed since the first post, but it has a picture of the Stengel card. Don't think anyone could give you a price on what a one-of-a-kind card would sell for, just depends on how much two people want it.

BTW, in case anyone had questions of whether someone had completed the set... In the Dec. 2000 Ron Oser auction, lot 587 was for a complete set (less the Stengel) of 29 Maple Crispettes. Don't know who bought them.

I did update my Maple site a bit, adding a few other tidbits about the set. I also added a few card scans, including one of the backside.

At the 2002 National, a dealer was offering the majority of the Maple set. I don't remember who it was, but they had all but about 4 or 5 of the cards (no Stengel, of course). I did inquire about the asking price, but can't remember what that price was. I do remember it to be pretty reasonable, but far beyond the amount I had in my wallet.

I think I posted this on another Maple thread, the cards have seen a major increase in prices over the last year. I think a few major collectors in the field have recently been turned on to them, and it only takes 2 people to jack up prices. Commons in Good condition have been selling for $50-150 recently, with stars commanding much more. The thing about Maple's is that they're a very condition sensitive issue. Cards found in VG or better are pretty rare..and the prices on these go up dramatically.

To answer the gentleman's question about Sam Bohne, he is a common player/card, but a common that isn't seen quite as often as some of the others. I'd say Bohne in Good condition should run around $50 or so.
