Default T206 Southern Leaguers

What is the reason they are more difficult to find? Did it have something to do with distribution?

Hi Chris,
Southern Leaguers were only printed in the 350 series and were only inserted in to Old Mill, Piedmont, and Hindu Cigarettes and were only distributed in the South. Therefore they were printed in much smaller numbers than regular minor league poses. Be well Brian

Does anyone know if all of the Southern Leaguer's listed come in all 3 of the different backs Brian mentioned? How hard is it to get these cards in these different backs besides Old Mill, that is if Old Mill is considered the easiest to get.
Thanks everyone, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Here's a good estimate of the back breakdown for Southern Leaguers:

Old Mill 50%
Piedmont 45%
Hindu 5% (except the 6 Texas League players who are not found with Hindu backs). Hope this helps Brian

There are 48 T206 Southern league players. (Not counting the 8 unissued proofs.)

The 6 Texas league players only have Old Mill or Piedmont backs:
Bastian (San Antonio)
Miller (Dallas)
Smith (Shreveport)
Stark (San Antonio)
Thebo (Waco)
White (Houston)
Estimate Old Mill 55%, Piedmont 45%

The other 42 Southern leaguers come with Old Mill, Piedmont, and Hindu brown backs.
Estimate Old Mill 50%, Piedmont 45%, Hindu brown 5%

The Old Mill backs are the most common on Southern League players.

Hope this is helpful.

Thank you Brian and Art. So is it safe to assume that a Piedmont back would hold a value premium over a Old Mill back 1/4 - 1/2 more.

No. One other point---the OM back on SL'ers is different than the OM back on other cards.

Hi Jeff
Elliot is right, there is not a premium for Piedmont backs, in fact, most collectors seem to prefer the Old Mill backs. Obviously the Hindu backs carry a significant premium, but I'm in the process of building a set, so I would appreciate everyone leaving them alone ......

Be well Brian
