Default Is anyone familiar with 1984 Donruss rack packs?

I purchased on ebay a 1984 Donruss rack pack with a Tony Fernandez rookie card on top. On this rack pack the cards are able to slide between the center panel and right side panel. The left panel is sealed so cards can not slide to or from the center panel. Odd.

I own some 1984 Donruss rack packs purchased from a reputable source where there is a seal between the three panels preventing them from sliding between each other.

It is conceivable that Donruss made two different types of rack packs, but I am skeptical.

Does anyone have any purchased in 1984 where the cards can slide between the center and right panel with the left panel sealed?

I own several rack packs from the '80's with RC's on top but no '84 Donruss packs. Unfortunately, I would have to believe that your Fernandez pack was tampered with, doesn't sound right to me at all. You might want to ask the seller for a refund. If I recall correctly, they were pretty expensive, like $50 or so?

I've seen the seal between many of the 3 packs come undone.... And often. It's nothing to worry about unless you see OTHER evidence that someone was able to remove/insert cards elsewhere

Is this a specific reference to 1984 Donruss? I am almost sure that it is but some posters go on tangents.

This rack pack looks like it has been to h*ll and back. I paid a premium for it from a reputable seller. At the same time, I might not have another opportunity to buy one with Tony Fernandez so I would like to keep it.

What is odd is that on the plastic there is not any evidence whatsoever that there ever was a seal. Another concern is that that the one intact seam has a wrinkle in. The pack looks like someone made it in their basement with a kitchen sealer. Every bone is my body is telling me to return it.

Credence to it being authentic is someone would have to be out of their mind to tamper with it, reseal it the way it is, and try and pass it as authentic.

I purchased some other 1984 Donruss rack packs from another store and the plastic wrap is different. They also look like they came out of the factory last week and are in pristine condition. I believe Donruss might have printed 2 versions of the rack pack. I have seen versions like mine. They might have realized that the first version would not hold up.

I am taking the one with Tony Fernandez on top and trying to move the cards to see if there is a Mattingly in it. That is likely the only way I would be convinced it is authentic.

Pictures of the questionable seal and missing seal. Middle finger can be ignored.

1st picture is what it should look like. Night and day.

After seeing those pics, I would be even more inclined to stay away from it.

Looks like a basement creation to me. May have been packaged in the 80s but I don't believe it was done by Donruss.
