Default Yes or No....should divisive threads be locked?

Posted By: leon

This is easy (I hope)....I would like to see how many folks would lock a thread like the one with over 100 posts in it? A simple yes (would lock it) or no (wouldn't lock it) will suffice. My vote is "no"......I am all about free speech as much as possible....but please only a yes or no....This could be interesting.....thanks

I think the only threads that need to be locked are the ones the descend into the personal attack mode. The thread we have going now came close- two posters admitted to receiving email death threats, and that's not good karma. But as of now things seem to be winding down, so I'd agree probably not. But as we discussed you did the right thing by asking. We all seem to like a good train wreck but even those have to be cleared off the tracks eventually. Edited to say I didn't follow instructions- you wanted a one word answer. Please lock me out.

No, I'd appreciate being able to post my thoughts.

No, I generally enjoy reading the majority of posts that advocate postions contrary to my views and beliefs.

So no, Sir.

But I suspect this newest long post will be off of the front page by the end of the week. With some other vile monster taking its place.

No, but divisive locks should be threaded:

(unless of course you use the self-adhesive version....)

but -

I would love an "ignore this thread" button.

So when a thread gets into the 'fight mode' I could just click and poof it is gone.

[(-yes x -yes)/(yes x yes)]no - 2(yes - yes) + no/-no + 1 = X

X = My Answer (It's in there if you care to figure it out)

When posts degenerate into personal spats, name-calling and insults, lock them down. It doesn't do anyone any good to go there and it alienates others who may read them.

Leon,

You'll never get a yes or no answer from this group. The First Amendment does not protect threatening language. So that is the criteria you should use.

It's sort of a gray area when the bickering starts. I tend to let it go for a little while hoping it will go away. If it doesn't, as historically has been seen, I will jump in. For the most part I stand by my most important rule of thumb.....Put your name by something and you can almost anything you want to, per the forum rules. A reality check never hurts though....regards
