Default Hake's Auction Pick-Up's

Another nice group of Negro League and other baseball material last night in Hake's. Especially strong prices realized on the Judy Johnson (in Homestead Grays uniform) photo, Hugh Duffy minor league postcard and '24-'25 Aguilitas Oscar Charleston card, which brought nearly double the selling price realized in Heritage's Auction earlier this year.

Anyone on the Board snag one of these great pieces or any others?

I missed the auction. I think they used to send catalogs.

Had my eye on the pieces you mentioned, but can't afford any big ticket items at this point. Perhaps in a few months I'll be back on the prowl. I sure hope there aren't any "must haves" between now and next spring!

I received a catalog so they're still sending them, at least to some of us.

Hey Phil,

Well, I was the under bidder on both the Judy Johnson card which I bid many times on late and also I went to bed hi on the Duffy Minor league PC to see I was outbid at 4am. I bid on the Charleston but did not want to set a new high price for that grade even though its a great card. I saw if I bid one more time on the Johnson card I would be hi bidder but then I realized it was a photo and not a postcard so I let it go to the other bidder.

I won a couple of the Babe Ruth pins. Frankly, I don't really understand the closing procedure, which seemed to be a lot by lot but if a bid occurs during extra time, the ending time is extended by 3 HOURS from that bid. Luckily, for my lots, no one bid during extended time.

I received one too. Great auction house and I had received a number of emails about their auction.

I also bid on the Charleston -- and was willing to pay up. Apparently "paying up" is in the eye of the bidder. I wish these great negro league cards surfaced more often.

+1. I received a catalog, numerous email reminders. Hake's does a great job getting the word out. I've consigned with them numerous times because of that.

See my thread about friendliness. I am not putting up with crap anymore. His comment about catalogs was 100% snarkiness trying to be veiled, thrown my way. Exactly like last time when I told him his next snarky comment and he was gone. Same exact thing. And as for Jeff. I am tired of dealing with him on the board, at least for now.

Thin skin much? Same thing was said in another thread when someone posted they don't get catalogs. It's more of a statement to support the auction house than a dig at you. Offering a different perspective shouldn't be grounds for banishment, regardless of previous dealings.

Sure, thin skin that's it. His veiled snarkiness wasn't veiled again. Offering a different perspective is never grounds for banishment. Being warned that your next snarky remark would get you banned (as you had been warned and banished before for it) and then doing it anyway, will.

Congrats Kenny. I cost you some $ there, but was not the underbidder.

Default My favorite thing from Hake's was....

Unbelievably... the World Cup Uruguay pins. There always seems to be something "out of the ordinary" that I end up winning at Hakes.

On the baseball side, I took home the Willard Brown Mexico team photo and a few other small photos / postcards.

I was one of the under bidder on the Judy Johnson photo and the Martin Dihigo photo...

Congrats on the new addition!
