Which of the fake OPC rookie Wayne Gretzkys appeals to you most?

9/10ths of the 79-80 OPC Gretzkys offered on ebay are fake. Why? Because the original had a yellow spot on his left shoulder, at least one rough cut edge, and
a sort of dingey back. "Oh, we can make a nicer card than that," thought some, and sure enough, they did!

There's one fake right now in a PSA 8 holder...

And of course, I bid on another, and am trying to get my money back--I'll probably get neither money NOR fake card!

Yes Julie,, a ton of them are fakes,,,as a big gretzky buyer I found that Martin sportscards in Canada has the best and the most OPC rookies and the prices are reasonable. If you are looking for one, I suggest calling them...

...but Martin Sportscards carries an inventory of hand cut 1980s O-Pee-Chee hockey. I'd avoid them and find a dealer that sells the factory (wax pack/vending) issued varieties instead.

Martin Sportscards is a big buyer of uncut sheets so there is no guarantee his Gretzky's will be original factory cuts.
Julie - Not all Gretzky's have rough cut edges. In some packs you will find clean nice cards with no rough cut and in the same pack you could find mis-cuts and edges that are very rough.

I stand corrected then, didn't know they cut up sheets...i have gotten 6 or 7 opc's from them,,,,they were graded with no problems, but hey, after hanging here for awhile i know that means nothing...they must do a very good job cutting them then,,,

next time I buy one I ask them if cut first,,,, i do know they buy a ton of uncut ones also...thanks for the info,because I usually use them as a primary source...

Hi all, gotta love these hockey topic even if a little OT. I am not sure I agree with Julie's 9/10
figure, especially once the advertised reprints are taken into account.

According to a series of short articles published by Beckett Grading there are 3 known Gretzky reprints versions (possibly excluding those that are stamped
