I decided to check out the local weekend flea market here in Southern Maine earlier this morning, since I had seen a Colgan Chip, T206, and a T212 a few weeks back.

I found an upgrade to my early PB1 catcher pin with no foxing and paper insert intact for $20.00. Insert reads as follows:

H.B. WINDRATH
191 SENECA ST.
BUFFALO, N. Y.
_________

Buttons made by
The Whitehead & Hoag Co.,
Newark N.J., U.S.A.
Pat. April 14, 1896.
July 21, 1896.

It's my first pickup since April 18, 2007.

Patrick

The PC I got b/c Turner Engle gave me a heads up to it - otherwise I'd have missed it. Thanks to Turner and others that occasionally nudge me when I've missed something on ebay.

This one from ebay for $89 - I thought that was a really good price. With a $50 gift certificate, it was only $40 out of my pocket. Can't beat that at WalMart.

That is a great card, Joann. McIntyre's T206 has been high on my wantlist for a long time. Now I think I want his Ramly, too. Doubt I'll get a deal as good as yours, though.

Thanks guys. I was surprised at where it ended up. The grade comes from a spot of paper loss about 1 cm round, dead in the middle of the back. With a front like that though I still thought it was a good price.

Leon,

Maybe he was This was taken from thebaseballpage.com

"Mullin was sort of the Mark Fidrych of his time, talking to hitters, talking to himself, and employing unusual tactics on the mound to psyche out opponents and pump himself up. He was known for walking off the mound and stalling when opposing teams mounted a rally, a ploy designed to give himself time to regroup."

Thick and clean white borders, 50/50 centering, firm corners, perfect registration and deep colors -- I can't ask for more in a T206 portrait. I love finding these little gems. I'm centering my collection around them.

Is that a partial proof strip of Sporting Life with the Wagner, Cobb, etc? The colors are so deep. They look much deeper and darker than the typical blue backgrounds. Never seen anything quite like that before.

Hey Larry, got that uncut strip from Brian McQ. Really enjoy "different" and unique items and this sure fits the bill. As far as the colors go, the darker blue does seem a little deeper than most M116`s. If you`d like to further compare Brian has 4 examples of these panels on his web site. I am trying to get cards of the 1`st 5 HOFers and this one got 2 birds with one stone!

After looking at the back of the "cards" on Brian's website, I would venture to guess that they were part of a thick cardboard display sign advertising The Sporting Life and showing some of the cards available when sending away for the series. Just a guess.

Thanks Bob.
Warneke was relatively tough for me as well.

Congrats on having this set complete.
I'm getting there, as i need only a couple now, to finish up.

Joann- A very sharp Ramly! A nice addition for you, without a doubt.

Alan- That is a beautiful A&G Ward. My compliments.

Here are a couple of off topic items.

The first is a card of Don Hutson that I've always wanted.

The second is the text book from the Bill McGowan School for Umpires. I thought it goes nicely with the postcards from his school. It has been autographed inside by several major league umpires who were instructors at the school. I've included a picture of the postcard of McGowan too.

Got this from a flea market dealer. He told me high dollar cards are too hard to sell so at his request I traded some postwar cards.
