Default Hello!

Hello everyone, I am thrilled to be a new member of net54 from north of the 49th.

I am a self professed 'hardcore' Ted Williams collector, though every once in a while I manage to stray from my focus like Rube Waddell and a passing fire truck.
(Haven't we all been tempted by old cards/shiny objects?)

Forgive me if this is not the correct forum, but I am currently seeking out the final card in a 16 player set from the 1910 Obak Vancouver team.
I am not too concerned about condition, but would like to find an unstamped version that presents well. The player is Carl Lewis (posed with catcher's mitt above his head). If anyone has one they would be willing to part with, I would be very appreciative.

Thank you very much everyone,
Enjoy this great hobby of ours!

Greetings from south of the 49th in Victoria, B.C. Quite a few Canucks on the board. Where in the Dominion do you call home? Here's a link to a gallery of my Van/Vic Obaks if you're interested in seeing the lot of them: http://tinyurl.com/o6r5s4o

Welcome old friend.

In between my own Williams collecting, this is where I spend most of my time. You will find the Net54 group most informative and entertaining (and hopefully you are successful at finding that last Obak).

All the best,
Dave

"I am a self professed 'hardcore' Ted Williams collector"

Pretty sure you don't have this "one of a kind" Ted Williams "item" in your collection. Looks like it has been encapsulated by a TPG. I am guessing that would have to be PSA "DNA"....

…and I thought I was a 'hardcore' collector!
That must have been submitted under PSA/DNA's premium service!

Pat, welcome to the forum! And, may I say I love your user name. Show .406 to anybody else in the world, and they look at you with a blank look on their face.

Show .406 to a baseball fanatic, and you get "Teddy bleeping ballgame, summer of '41! That was a year for baseball, wasn't it? DiMaggio getting the MVP? Hitting in 56 straight, God Bless Joltin' Joe, but the Splendid Splinter hit four freakin' oh six!"

It's like a secret handshake that only baseball lovers/fanatics know

If there's anything I can help you with, please feel free to shoot me a private message. There's a wealth of information here, and the forum search function and Google will help you unlock the mysteries of the universe (well, at least when it comes to pre-war and vintage baseball cards). But sometimes, just asking another person is the way to go, and I am happy to share any of the knowledge I have gained here.

You are among friends! Have fun, and again, welcome aboard!

Bill

Thanks everyone for your kind welcomes and secret handshakes!
(...and new screen-savers Leon!)

I am really looking forward to Net54, I can feel the passion here already.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as passion or insanity, but the youngster in me decided to take a 'side trip' while visiting Southern California a few years back!

Running the bases was truly amazing!

Pat, I think running around the bases should be required anytime you have the chance to visit a field or ballpark that holds a special place in your heart. Hell, I'm not even a Red Sox fan per se, but if I had a chance to circle the bases at Fenway, even if one of Boston's finest were waiting at home plate with a pair of cuffs, it would be worth spending the night in the pokey for that memory! I'd skip over first base, just like Ted did after hitting the game winning home run at the '41 All Star Game in Detroit. I'd imagine I'd hit the home run at night, and that sparks were cascading down from the lights in the right field rafters, with the theme from The Natural playing in my head. Hell, I'd be looking in the seats for Kim Basinger upon completing my triumphant turn around the diamond, too. And if I don't think that's at all insane, I'm certainly not going to question your little side trip. Bravo, I say!

If the final scene of The Natural were on tv as I drew my last breath, I'd go out with a smile on my face.

Now I know I'm on the right website, it's not just me then!
When I rounded third I was looking towards home fully expecting Joe DiMaggio to greet me with a handshake!

Ted's boyhood home is just two blocks away (let's call this one side trip 2.0)
I felt like a nervous nine year old as I walked by to snap a photo!
