Default Trimmed SGC Card?

Posted By: Paul

Here is a link to an SGC graded Sports Co. of America Eddie Collins on ebay. It sure looks trimmed to me, maybe handcut from a sheet. Am I seeing things, or did SGC blow it?

Here's a link to one Billjo is currently selling (referred to as "Spalding"), and he says that his was neatly cut from a sheet. The SCD Guide says that they were issued in individual wrappers, which would mean to me that they probably weren't hand-cut. In any case, SGC grades hand-cut cards as long as the issue was only hand-cut - at least, that's my understanding.

Default Trimmed SGC Card?

If I am correct, the cards were issued as singles in glassine evelopes. There were/are also large uncut sheets. In some instances, uncut sheets were given as present/payment to the athletes portrayed on the cards.

Default Trimmed SGC Card?

There was a near set (missing one) of 48 cards in Lipsets last auction April 24 lot 25, and they are all hand cut from a sheet, and rather crudely, and the 3 cards shown (Ruth, Cobb, WJohnson) are all wavy and different sizes. So there are or were uncut sheets floating around for this set. I have one myself that I always thought was trimmed, but I guess it is from a sheet like this too. Mine is obviously cut on all sides, and not too carefully, as it can easily be seen with the naked eye. Frank
