Favorite autograph acquisition of 2012
Mark,
I'm glad you finally bagged your Bill Dinneen GPC that you've been looking for so hard. Congrats! I'll go with my Johnny Vander Meer 1944 Sampson, NY US Navy Basic Training photo signed by every one in his graduating class. Happy holidays to everyone on net54! |

My new poster:
Still debating on whether to leave the tally at 82 or go for 100+. The names in red are my wishlist (pre-1990 MLB debut/affiliation). |

I wouldn't include Raines, Morris and Schilling in that list until if/when they are actually elected. Just sayin'...

This is by far my favorite piece I added to my collection in 2012... A pivotal piece in my Yankees Captains project. Hoping to add a Gehrig in 2013!

Guess it would either be my Gehrig or Foxx. Took a gamble buying the Foxx raw, guess that worked out

Nothing earth shattering for me this year, although my favorites were my first pick up in January (1973 Sporting news signed by Blue, Hunter and Holtzman) that I had been looking for for several years, and my last pick up of 1919 Blacksox player Eddie Murphy.

2012- A very good year.
Great pick ups everyone!
I had a number of very nice pick ups this year, but my favorite piece of autographed memorabilia is the 1934 Goudey autographed by KiKi Cuyler. It is not only my favorite because of what it is, but also because of how I got it. I won't bore those of you who read the story before, but here's a link to the story if you're interested in reading it. I hope everyone has a Great Christmas, New Year, Chanukah, and all the holidays celebrated this time of year I wish you all a very healthy and prosperous 2013. Best, Mark

This is a postcard signed on the front by Emil Rausch (1882-1954). Competing for Germany he won two golds and a bronze medal in swimming at the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis. He won a silver medal in swimming at the 1906 Olympics in Athens. This postcard was mailed from Athens on April 11, 1906, eleven days before the opening of the games and arrived in Germany on April 28, 1906, two days after he won his silver medal. He used 3 of the 1906 Greek Olympic stamps for postage. Interestingly, he used the French designation for Germany, 'Allemagne' rather than the German designation, 'Deutschland'. The handwriting on the front left of the postcard is a much later identification of the card.
