Default OMG I'm collecting modern: my modern Houston Astros pickup thread

I've been an Astros fan from birth. Then by choice. (cause screw the Rangers, am I right?) This is my first attempt at collecting modern and I must admit that I can't believe all the variations, "errors", parallels, autos, relics, Santa hats!?!

I tried to just limit it to Topps products. For the team collection I've stayed on track. However, I decided to PC Correa and Altuve. Wow. Sooo many cards. 1/1's don't really count in my universe, so I don't even keep an eye out for them. If they happen to come my way for the right price? That's a different story.

Here are the cards that I have deemed worthy/ must have so far:

I like the look of the Leaf products. The lack of logo...

Slowly picking up Correa autos that I like/can afford. I even buy the ugly ones if they aren't that expensive.

Bowman seems to have enough variations to choke an elephant. I don't expect to get anywhere near completion.

Modern --- you ought to be ashamed of your self. What would Mr. Richter say?

BTW -- I have the 2016 Spring Fever Correa is you want it. Sitting on my desk at home, I'll try to remember to bring the card on Saturday.

(In case you are wondering why I'm dong this -- it's also part of an inside joke with the two of us,
in a conversation that is something similar to this one which occurred in Triple Cards in Plano)

I see a horribly mis cut group of 2016 Heritage on the front counter

Dealer/Collector in the store said their worthless, I mention I have a customer for them (BTW LAXCAT is that customer -- and if you have any ANY off cut old or new cards which show other cards please contact him)

Dealer/Collector changed tune from: I throw them away to "IS THERE A PREMIUM on them?" Nothing like a good old fashioned change of tune on a dime

Rich

I'm a taker on any Correas I don't have. Of course the MC as well. I've run into that. More often it is the exact opposite. I have regular customers that give me stacks of MC's whenever I see them. A few dealers also know I'm good for a trade from my $1 boxes for the MC's that they deem as worthless.

Cat out of the bag: I'm working on a complete run of sets from 57-79 that are MC with a portion of another card on them. Baseball & Football. I don't make my list public b/c I'm afraid of a price increase.

They are fun & modern MC's are a bear to find.

I call this one "Mission Accomplished"

Default Matt ALso Collects

Blank and Wrong Backs. All under the sui generis of "printing flaws"

I think the real reason all the modern stuff is much harder to find is so many people send them back to companies customer service to get better centered cards that they leave circulation.

Great stuff Matt. Some of my favorite pickups this year have been Astros. With all the variations it can exhausting collecting modern issues, but despite some vintage collectors disdain for "shiny" cards many of them look amazing in hand.

Here's my favorite Astros.

Happy Collecting!

As a fan and LSU baseball season ticket holder I'm appalled at the lack of Alex Bregman.

Only have one Bregman. Don't know where it went.

Those are some sweet autos. Man, I hated those Astros uniforms.

1/1 blank backs from Topps Vault. I like that the Heritage came in nice one touches.
