Default Guess my grade. Grade revealed!!

I recent submission of some raw cards new and old left me dumbfounded at this one and the grade it actually got. I am asking you guys/gals what you think the accurate grade would be in your opinion.

I have darkened the back to enhance it for viewing.

Alright the grade on the card was a SGC 50/4 My dumbfounded expression was that the only flaw on this card is the wrinkle below the tigers head. It comes from the edge of the card to the bat. Other than a chip on the border and the corners having chipping that is it. The registration on the cards back is great and very readable. I darkened the back to show the card better in detail. I thought a definite shoe in for a 5 but WOW. This has to be the highest graded 4 ever IMO. Thanks to all who guessed.

Bama the card is not for sale at this time but I do have some extra T205's on the B/S/T for sale if interested.

Andrew,

I am sure I am going to take a swing and a miss here but regardless of the grade, this is one very nice looking card. Hard to see tiny wrinkles from a scan but I will say an SGC 70/5.5 (Ex+) if there is not a microscopic flaw.

But I am guessing you were dinged down lower then this. T-205's can cause the greatest angst over grading. I have seen some realy nice cards in 40,50 holders and then others in higher holders that look like crap. Still a great looking card.

I'll guess SGC50, maybe from a mark or two on the back and someone being super technical ?

Default Nice card!

My guess would be a SGC 60, can't see it graded any lower. But I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be a SGC 40. SGC can be pretty tough on cards!!

Since you darkened the photo of the back, I suspect the print quality is weak. That's where they got you...SGC 60

Would venture a 50 due to preceived wrinkle below tiger and inconsistencies on reverse. It looks much better to me, above is based on your amzement.

Respectfully,

Wrinkle below the "tiger" put into a 40/3, but could easily be a 50/4...Is it for sale?

SGC 30 - wrinkle below the tiger on the front, wrinkle above the glove on the front (near the chip on the border). Spot on the back as well.

Default Sgc 40

maybe 50. Looks like a wrinkle below tiger, wrinkle from edge to upper right bat handle, possible wrinkle even with lower right bat handle/knob, wrinkle or scratch 2/3 down left side from edge, corner bend or wrinkle lower left.

My first thought was SGC 70, but I will go with a 60 due to light printing on the back.

Default going with.....

I am going with a 40. I think there are a few tiny blemishes that they hammered..

To the naked eye, I agree....a 70 in appearance...

30 because of the wrinkles but possibly A if the back was scrubbed to clean it up.

Even if there are wrinkles, that card does not deserve a 30! If there are one or two minor wrinkles, then maybe a 50. If it is riddled with wrinkles, but still looks that nice, then SGC 40. I have said this before on these kinds of threads, but if eye-appeal means nothing in grading, then what does the grade really mean? If the physical appeal of the card has no bearing on the grade, then I think the grading system is flawed.

Default Sgc 40

...because of the wrinkles. I've seen otherwise clean T206 cards with hard to scan spider wrinkles come in at SGC 30, however.

I'll say SGC-10, why?
Cause just about every other grade has been spoken for from SGC-A to 84
So someone has to be right

Default I/M/O should've gotten SGC 60 to 70

I am not tring to hijack the thread, but am including the one and only t205 that I own.It is graded SGC 50,and as you can see,the corners on my card are far more worn.Your card looks way nicer-please tell us the grade!!!

Default This thread highlights one of the benefits of grading, which is

...that the SGC 50 that inspired this post tells us by grade alone that there must be a spider wrinkle that is hard to see in a scan; and the SGC 50 that is immediately above this post has absolutely no spider wrinkles, because the corners are pretty well worn.

Seems like an accurate grade, though it is a nice looking 50.

This Young has NM corners and no wrinkles. Slight tilt and chip in left border downgraded this one.

Thats a very nice Yound there Jim. Did you have it graded or buy it already slabbed? If you had it graded what were your thoughts when it came home?

I bought it graded and about a year later had it reviewed at the National. They did not change the grade on review. I think it is a no-brainer 60. A two full grade drop seems fair for the chip. The card is near-mint other than the chip. It seems like they (both PSA and SGC) are more lenient on chipping on issues like T205, T210, and T204 where it is more offensive visually than a chip like this on a white-bordered card.

Jim,I also feel that your Young card deserved a better grade than that-that card is awesome.Even with a spider wrinkle on Andrews card,I still feel it deserved a better grade.I have sent in cards that I for sure thought would come back at least a 40,and they came back a 30.I've also sent in a GAI slabbed T206 graded a 3,and it came back SGC 50,,,,,,,,,,,as far as grading goes,I feel SGC is the best at overall grading-they are the only ones I have grade my raw cards.Andrew, bottom line is-you still have one beautiful looking card there(and it didn't come back an"A')........regards,Clayton

Amen to that. I do think Jims card is well deserving of a 60. Thats how it works though

Pup I don't see how that card could have come in a 5 or 60 with a small crease some minor loss on the left side edge and the stain or mark on the back. I'd say you are lucky it didn't come in at SGC 40 which it easily could have if you ask me.

Unfortunately, the grade is correct technically. Ya' can't get a 5, generally speaking, with any wrinkles. It's just that easy. I think the grading companies are caught between a rock and a hard place on some cards. IN the end they have to give the technical grade or there would be less consistency. We all have cards like this one in question. They are great collector cards but aren't great for the registry game....regards

Straight from the SGC page. Sometimes I think they forget their own scale.

70 EX+ 5.5 A 60 EX 5 card with higher grade centering or corners.

60 EX 5 80/20 or better centering, minor rounding or fuzzing of corners, roughness or chipping along edge (no layering), one VERY slight surface or "spider" crease may exist on one side of the card, gloss may be lost from surface with some scratching that does not detract from the aesthetics of the card.

50 VG/EX 4 85/15 or better centering, corners are slightly rounded with modest surface wear. Light hairline crease may show on one or both sides. A light tear or surface break may exist.

I would say Jim needs to send in his card again with a few others in the 4 range and comparables may make the card stand out and get the bump.
