Default Guess the grade.....E122

Posted By: leon

I picked this up not too long ago and will be sending it into SGC tomorrow to be graded....Just curious what ya'll think the grade will be? I have under $100 into it and don't think it's trimmed...but what do you think?

Leon - nice card. Maybe it's just the scan, but the left and right edges appear wavy.

Assuming there are no creases, the card looks like an 84, no? Four nice corners.

We have found SCG to be quite difficult with E 121 and E 122

We would predict a grade of 80

I will be very surprised if it turns out to be trimmed. The scan might make you think there is some sort of wave to a border but I don't see it in person. Note- I have been wrong before......

It just seems a little thin side to side.

Knock on wood and I am going to guess an 86 or 88. I do have the privilege of seeing it in person and with a 6x and there is almost no fuzziness in any corner. I just don't see a waviness or narrowness to the borders either.........but again, I have been wrong before....

It is hard to judge the corners from the scan, but it looks like an 84 or 86, possibly 88 if they are really sharp.
Good luck.

I think it is a nice looking card.

I think that SGC would "AUT" it.

The borders on the Hooper and Wambsganss(the only 2 I could find for reference) in your personal collection look big compared to this McGraw.

My guess is authentic, the card might have been cut that way by the factory but my experience with E122's is that that card is too narrow side to side. Here are 3 typical cards from the set...

I agree....but look at your card on the left. That left border is original and wavy as can be and I would bet it's a factory cut....I hope that this is a factory cut on the one I have and SGC labels it with a number.....Also, this did come from outside our little vintage arena so am not worried about it having been trimmed for nefarious reasons. I am told that trimming for deception is easier to do top to bottom...as there is less area to trim. That being said I do know many hobby old timers routinely cut down cards to fit in holders and binders. I guess we shall see...

from the front it doesn't look trimmed. but when you look at the scan of the back it looks really really suspect. i feel like its definitely trimmed. i dont usually see the e122's with such thin borders. if its not trimmed it is a really oddly cut e122.

I hope you get an 84 or better...but I'd guess SML - or Authentic if you ask them to slab it no matter what.

Leon..how about I give you $125...you can make a little money, save the SGC fee, and not have to worry about any trimming? Sound like a good idea?

IMO too narrow even w/the "natural" variations in the set.
