Bill Mastro & Honus:
'Mysteries at the Museum' on the Travel Cannel just aired an episode which detailed Mastro trimming the Wagner and riding the coattails of it's sale.
It was very interesting. You may want to check your local listings to see when it is re-broadcast.

I checked the travel channel for the next week on my guide and didn't see it.
Surely they'll show it again? I didn't even know I had the travel channel. |

I clicked on this post with all the joy of a guy watching a plate glass window crash at his feet. I have some reservations about watching the episode.

I believe that the next time it comes up for auction it will blow the price roof to bits. That is the most famous card of all time, and there's plenty of people who want it bad. So much history to that card. Frank

Maybe. Last time it sold for 2.8 million in 2007. Personally think it takes a million dollar price hit.

Considering a PSA 3 just sold for 1.3 million I'd be surprised if that one didn't go for at least a million more than in 07. Not that I could ever afford it but I'm sure there would be a few people bidding who don't care that it was trimmed.

Agree with this. If the Wagner PSA 8 ever goes to auction again, I don't think it will decrease in price at all. Even though it has been trimmed, it is still the most famous card in the hobby.

+1 Most of us knew, or at least suspected, that it had been trimmed long before the last sale, and it still went over $2 million.

All things considered, that example is the Mona Lisa of card collecting. And that painting was trimmed, too.
