Happy to add this Mikan rookie to my collection. Vintage basketball is a relatively new hobby adventure for me, and I’m enjoying it so far.

Random recent purchases. I have to admit, I didn't even remember that the Iceman finished up with the Bulls.

Nice card. I have a few 48B's, but I don't know much about the set. I was looking at this one a couple weeks back, #67 Leo Mogus. I've never seen one before with the white background, I am not sure how rare this variation is. Maybe it was hand-cut from something? Anyway, I forgot to come back and bid on it and it got away, I think cheaply.

Anybody know anything about 1948 Bowman variations?

The grey 48's are scrap and will not get a numerical grade as they are all hand cut. I collect them and they are my favorite.

The workers would give these scrap sheets to local neighborhood children that stopped by the factory as they were just throwing them out. They have a good group of collectors, but many will not buy the because of the grading issue. I have never seen a PSA graded copy, so I cannot say they will grade at all. SGC and Beckett will grade the greys as authentic only.

Putting together a set can be hard as there are a few I have never seen as of yet and some that are super plentiful. I imagine the sheets scrapped certainly determined the spread. Strangely one of the ones I see the most is the Mikan, but they are very difficult to sell due to price and auth grades. In most cases it seems the gray sell for a little less unless it is one that rarely comes up and people are fighting. (although people set BINs high on them all the time, I am talking auction results)

I imagine that you just got this one from the large group on eBay a week or two ago. There were a few in there I went for.

Thanks for the info. I will have to keep a look out for those. There's a link to the Mogus card auction in my post. I didn't win it.

I totally didn't notice the hyperlink in your post. Yes, that was the big group. I think someone trying to build a set liquidated through Greg Morris as usually that many never pop up at one time. Most of those listings were gray, many are subtle to notice as it will just be the piping or lettering of a jersey. You get an eye for it once you really get into the set.

If you collect vintage basketball, give us a hell yeah. If you're planning on attending the Net54 meetup Saturday in Virginia, bring basketball cards.

Default First new program of 2023

And it is a Great one.. 1947-48 BAA. Game 2 of the Championship Finals. Until last night I had never seen one. I have slso never seen a 48-49 or a 49-50 Finals program would love to see pics if anyone happens to have either one.
I completed a run of one program from each finals series from 1951- 1973 but never ran across the first 4. I have seen 3 copies of the 46-47 and when the mood strikes I kick myself for not buying the one that sat on ebay for years. But getting this one should keep my mood up for quite awhile.

Picked this up a "card" issued by a savings bank to announce the appearance of The ABA Pacers, Billy Keller. Signed by Keller. The back shows that it was rudely removed from a scrapbook of some kind. But never seen another so I picked it up.

Ok I have been picking up a bit of vintage basketball. As I am sure you have seen my recent post in this thread.
So last week I was able to pick up this Julius Irving rookie. So Friday night had a call that a person had really
nice started sets of the 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74 Topps sets.So figured why not. Sets were about 90% compete.
So I have scanned a few of the cards. There was also a handful of the 1977 Fleer glossy team logos. No idea why
I have been buying this basketball stuff since my main focus is vintage non sport.

1971-72 Topps

1972-73 Topps

1973-74 Topps

Complete set Eastern Conference Pencils

I bought a box of 2022-23 Bowman Chrome University to chase the Wemby auto. I didn't hit the auto but I did hit the super short printed base:
