Tom BoblittRemoved these two items from a vintage scrapbook that contained about (600) 19th Century tobacco cards including about 60 baseball. Also had this letter from the owner (Quackenbush....cool name) and the cartoon dated 2/1946 about the person cleaning the actress cards out of the kids pockets.
Some notes about the scrapbook........
Cards were pasted front to back on many sheets about 15-20 per side. There were about (30) N172 Old Judges including Kid Nichols, 2 Buck Ewings and some other nice cards but all were skinned (but not trimmed). There was also a N333 S.F. Hess Newsboy and (12) N284 Buchner Gold Coins that had been crudely cut from an advertising sheet (including Kelly). Also (10) N162's including 2 baseball and 2 boxing.
Most of the cards were non-sports including MANY of the N224 Kinney Military Series (probably 300+ of them in varying conditions) and many more Kinney series including Horse Racing (American and European), some of the Duke issues, a few Mayo. About 60% of the album was Kinney with about 20% Duke and rest mixed Mayo, Buchner and Old Judge, etc.
I removed (soaked) the cards from the album....took most of a whole day to do it and dried them and actually graded some of the baseball (N162's). Unfortunately, most are all gone now. Had more detailed info about the whole scrapbook including images of the pages but it was on a crashed hard drive on an old laptop.
Just thought a few people would like to see the letter/cartoon. Sorry for the rambling and for the large images.
