My posts would look just like Bob's if I ever win the lottery.

Just got this in the mail today. I can't find any other photos out there signed by both Grange and his legendary coach Zuppke.

Default Terrific $16 purchase for the month- Johnny Vander Meer Day Key to Midland Park

Here is a neat inexpensive pickup that originated from Johnny Vander Meer's personal estate:

This Key to the borough of Midland Park, NJ was given to Vandy on Johnny Vander Meer Day on May 1, 1976. Midland Park was hometown of Vander Meer.
Dimensions are 6" x 13"

$16 including shipping on eBay... Come to Papa.

I picked up this huge 18x24 plaque from Heritage. The park that was dedicated to Irvin is about 3 blocks from where I grew up.

Thanks. One of the things I really love about this is the size. At 39" high, it allows for a jersey to displayed in front of it (32-34 torso) and have a nice period Yankee Stadium usher's uniform and cap displayed behind it.

I picked up these two items recently for my Alameda sports collection.

1935 Alameda Elks Majors vs Minors Charity Game Program. There was some guy by the name of DeMaggio on the minors team.

Andy Carey MLB debut ticket stub, Yankees vs Tigers.

Very nice piece!

I was happy when I picked up 52 Topps copy as I was chasing a decent looking one for a while.

Went to a local auction today and loaded my van full of tobacco tins, cigarette packs and ephemera. These are some of the items I think are of interest to the member here. The Helmar and Murad are still sealed...all of the other packs are still full of cigarettes, but not sealed. The matchbox is Capadura Cigars, I have seen many of the trade cards, but have never seen this matchbox before. The only other Yale cigar box I can find sold in a Heritage auction. This one is in much better shape than that one.

Nice score Dan. Too bad those aren't 1970 Orioles buttons. Those are probably worth more though.

It was a local auction that was all cigar tins and boxes, cigarette packs, ephemera and World's Fair memorabilia. the Mets pins were out of place.

I think I got about 50 tins, 150 cigarette packs and probably 30 flats full of 1939 and 1964 New York Worlds Fair items. I filled up my van.

The auction company already removed the page, but here is a cached version of the sale I found on google.

http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...&ct=clnk&gl=us

edited to add: The dollar I actually do use in my ebay auctions for scale.

Default Wally Pipp

I have to give thanks to Brian Van Horn for my latest December pick-up. I love the card and the story behind it.

Wally Pipp, NY Yankee first baseman and American League homerun leader in 1918 with 12 homers and 1917 with 9 homers was replaced as a starter in in 1925 by none other than Lou Gehrig. It was the start of the Iron Horse's 2130 consecutive games played.

Couldn't pass up the opportunity to get this bronze of Walter Johnson. The detail is simply incredible. It was reproduced from a plaster statue made in 1924 by Ulric Dunbar. Dunbar made 50 of the plaster statues but only 3 are known to have survived. The bronze was licensed and issued on a very limited basis. This one is #7. It stands 18" tall and weighs over 13#'s.
