Default Any interest in piggybacking a $50 sub??? CLOSED - Grades POSTED!! 6/20/22

I snagged my first allotment today. It is for 20 cards at $50 per pop. I am unsure if I am even going to use it, but I can be easily persuaded if someone else wants to tag along. Just checking the waters to see if anyone wanted to sub anything. I can take it or leave it, because at MOST I only have around 2-3 at that level.

Bobby would we be looking at a yearish turn around most likely at the $50 level?

Thanks.

Don't want to spend the money, but I have this real nice (to me, so it'll probably come back a PSA 2 MK/ST/PD/OC/AA/N6 combo) Bench rookie, plus a 1968 Mays PSA 8 ST that I'd like to crack open, wipe away the schmutz and resubmit, so I may be in for the sub if you decide to do it.

Darren...does that Bench make sense to submit at $50??? The cards I am looking to sub better be close to that $999 limit.

That's the big question, isn't it?
Based on recent sales data, it would have to come back a minimum of a 6 (which it damn well should, but I am probably 100% wrong) to be 'worth' it at a base level (money I paid for it + $50 + shipping and insurance to and fro), but since I'm not looking to sell it, that may just be money thrown to the winds. If it was a mere $10 special, then it would be an unequivocal yes (and the shipping and insurance cost would be eased by the large number of cards I would submit).

The Bench looks like a '4' to me. It's also possible that your scanner is like mine....it makes cards look worse than they really are. This is what I was thinking of submitting....what do you think?

To me, your trio of cards is a no-brainer. Real good stuff, and the added punch of being slabbed with a number will send their values skyward.

I'm wondering what you're seeing that says the Bench is a 4? It's really sharp all around, although the scan does make it appear as if the upper left corner is gnarled, but that's not the case. The burlap is a lot thinner/lighter up there, is all...

The 1968's I have been terrible at grading. Maybe it is a '6'. The burlap throws me off. For my 3, I got the Aaron at a 5. I HAD the Musial at a '7', although the scan makes it look worse than it is....the Mantle is probably a '3'.

I agree you on the Aaron at a 5 and Mantle at a 3. The Musial looks like a 4 to me. The left corners look a tad soft, the bottom edge is rough, and the T/B centering isn't the best. You have to look out for the centering on the reverse on that issue too. Like you said, maybe it's the scan. Just offering a second set of eyes, hope you don't mind. They are all great cards, good luck!

No...I appreciate it. In person it looks super.....the scan tends to bring out all the flaws though.....if the Musial is only a '4', I might not sub that one then....that one is only a banger in mid to semi high grade.

FYI - I had 4 different 5 card subs which I sent to PSA during February, at the $50 level. I received all back to me roughly 5-6 weeks after they arrived at PSA. All things considered for where they've been, I didn't think that was too bad.

And for the most part, the grades were what I expected. Happy to see nothing randomly got slammed for no logical reason!

***OPINIONS WANTED...EVEN POINTLESS, NOT WELL THOUGHT OUT ONES***

I have three slots for Bobby's submission. One 'should' be taken up by cracking out my PSA 8 ST 1968 Willie Mays and wiping away the schmutz, so that leaves two slots to fill. As a little insight, I'm not planning on selling anything, but it really is all about value, because the way this last year has went, I am never more than 5 minutes away from having to sell everything.

Here are my candidates:

1956 'Hammerin' Hank' - WYSIWYG. Overall pretty decent, but the corners are bumpity.

1972 'Dr. J.' Rookie - Crap! Knew the top left corner was bumped, but just realized the lower left corner has a light crease...so it's low grade. Ugh!!

1980 'The Great One' - really sweet overall, but is the top to bottom centering a killjoy??

1968 Johnny Bench Rookie - it looks awesome, but man, when you examine the scans, things pop up. A real tough call.

Two 1971 Munsons, One Plate - either fits nicely into anyone's complete set, but would one of them grade high enough to make the $50 to PSA a good move?

Edited to add:

Creasius Erving...

Pointless and not well thought opinion - grade the Hank, Dr. J and Bench because those are my three favorite cards from the group

Aaron is around $400 (4....maybe a '5' on a good day)

Erving is around $500 (3)

Bench is around $300 (5)...I know...I'm harsh on these.

Even if the Munson's grade 6's, they are only around $300 cards...

They are all GREAT cards.....are they $50 grading fee great????

That's for you to decide.......if I didn't have much in it, I would grade the Erving......basketball is hot.

One final contestant (the very top is actually a shadow, not the black of the card)...

1971 Rose in a 6.5 is around $150. I wouldn't send that one. Sounds like you are in the same boat as me Darren.

If you promise to reduce my costs for the next group submission, I will happily build you a gallows.

The only way there will be another group submission is if PSA drops below $10 again. Like Glenn Frey said....I guess that will be when hell freezes over.
