Default Why is there no E92 Dockman Cobb?

There is a crofts cocoa and candy, and 3 nadja backs known. Why no Dockman?

The Dockman set, at 40 cards, is the smallest of the E92 sets. A couple of the left off subjects (Bender striped hat, Miller fielding) were probably dropped because the player is included in the set with different artwork. As far as the other eight, including Cobb, who knows?

Here are the 10 subjects with artwork seen in all of the other E92 sets, but not seen in the E92 Dockman issue. The Nadja set also has 12 additional St. Louis cards (whose artwork is also seen in E90-1). They most definitely were added due to the fact Nadja was a St. Louis company.

Barry
Bender striped hat
Cobb
Collins
Dooin
Evers
Jacklitsch
Knabe
Knight
Miller fielding

Default Thanks

Thanks Brian...if I remember correctly some of those like Knight, Knabe, Miller fielding, etc. were considered more valuable than regular "commons" in the other E92 sets...Jerry

Ryan, I can't answer your question, but I do think the answer is far more complex than it looks at first glance. As Brian indicates, the Dockman set has historically been categorized as 40 cards (missing those Brian listed and the St. Louis players) while Candy and Cocoa were 50 cards and Nadja 62. My experience is that not all cards are known from all sets (cocoa Shean/black Davis/plenty of blues/Nadja Zimmerman/etc) and that the difficulty for individual players changes depending on the backs. I also think you may need to consider the other related sets with similar checklists (E101/102) as well as possibly non-baseball sets made at the same time (E78/Menagerie).

Current Wantlist:
E92 Nadja - Bescher, Bridwell, Cobb, Donovan, Doolan, Doyle (with bat), Lobert, Mathewson, Miller (fielding), Tinker, Wagner (throwing), Zimmerman
E/T Young Backrun - Need E90-1, T216 (all versions)
E92 Red Crofts - Anyone especially Barry, Shean, and Evers

Thanks Jerry. I know I definitely was extra interested in tracking down some of the ones that were left off, such as Barry, Bender striped hat, Knight, etc., because they were also not included in the E90-1 and E102 sets, which were other issues that I collected.

Brian

Brian and DJ, definitely very helpful. But I still don’t understand why they would exclude Cobb. I understand eliminating duplicates, but both Wagner poses are in the Dockman set. And Cobb (along with Wagner), was the star of baseball in 1909 why exclude the most popular player, especially if you are trying to promote your brand?
