Default The Polo Grounds in 1915...

Hey all,

So, I'm doing a painting of the below Ruth photograph for a board member.

I've got Babe covered pretty well here, which wasn't the hard part, as he's clear as day. However, I'm having trouble making sense of some of the ads on the Polo Grounds walls behind him in the background. I was wondering if any of you guys might have any original photos of the place from 1915 specifically that show that stuff clearly? I've already dug through the Library of Congress and other sites, but they don't have anything from that particular year. And I know that there's an Ever-Ready Safety Razor ad in there, as well as one for Fatima tobacco products, but I just wish I got a more clear view of the darn things.

Might any of you be able to help?

Thanks!

Graig

Graig: I had a look at a couple of Arcadia books about the Giants and the Polo Grounds. Couldn't find anything specific to 1915 but the attached scan might be useful.

This shot is from 1916. The Fatima sign seems to have changed from year to year. It doesn't match up with the Ruth photo. The Ever-Ready sign looks like it may be the same. The Uneeda Biscuit sign in the background is probably the same.

Thank you so much for the help so far, everyone! Though we haven't nailed one down from 1915 yet, these are still pretty helpful.

Keep 'em coming (if you can)!

Thanks,

Graig

Graig - have you tried 1915 newspapers? You might get lucky and find a good shot of the ads.

I have almost all of the 1915 Baseball Magazines.

If you client is willing to trade my time for future favors, I'll go look through them.
