Default Lesser Versions of Major Cards

Let's have a thread dedicated to those cards that appear to be more than they are. Cards that feature the famous images of their far more expensive counterparts.

I will start with my much beloved and cherished 1934 World Wide Gum of Mr. Babe Ruth. It may not be the almighty Goudey, but it looks like one:

Mickey Mantle's 52 Berk Ross Card, is the exact same pose as his 51 Bowman RC. One of my favorite cards that I own, thanks to this forum of course!

Here is the W573 of Ty Cobb, a black and white blank backed strip-tease version of his more widely collected sepia toned E120 American Caramel card. And bonus...the W573 even maintains the incorrect spelling of his last name as seen on the E120 card, thankfully.

Brian (I am going to claim that the back scan was enlarged to emphasize the smudge on back, rather than admit incompetence when it comes to scan sizing)

Here's another Ruth, my Kashin. People don't really like Kashins for one reason or the other but boy will they pay up for the Worch Cigar featuring the same image:

Default lesser

Here's a few lesser versions of upper cards/I actually could post all day in this thread

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to afford a high grade for the ones shown in this post, but that's not my game anyway.

Default a few more lessers

Just one more grouping of my lessers of uppers.
I've got a bunch of these

Naturally I mis-understood the intention of the thread. My wife says I do that a lot.
So I don't know if any of these cards feature poses of their better known versions or not, but I found scans and clicked on the paper clip/
Feel free to disregard

You can disregard some of those my way! Though I do already have an almost identically flabbergasted E106 of Speaker, which could be considered by some to be a lesser version of the E90-1 Speaker, which is one of the tougher ones in the set.

Default Great topic

I used to actively seek these types of cards. Here are a few...
M116 Eddie Plank SGC 80.jpgM116 Hans Wagner Blue enhanced.jpg

At the time I bought the Gehrig, I was psyched that I landed the same image as his rookie for about $300 as compared to maybe $3000. Looking back, wish I'd gotten both.

Why spend 1000's of $$$$ on a T206 Demmitt (St Louis) when you can get the same image for only about $100 - 200 by buying his T213-2 version.

Default Residue

Hi Ted,

What's particularly cool about your Demmitt T213-2 is that there is Demmitt "New York" team letter residue on the uniform! Never noticed that before. Very cool.

Possibly the only three team card:

1) New York artwork residue;
2) St. Louis artwork rewrite;
3) Chicago team caption.

Hope all is well & have a great Christmas.

Scot

Hi Scot...... you are very observant.

The T213 Demmitt uniform is quite "grainy", while the T206 uniform is bright white. Apparently, American Lithographic used an old (and worn out) printing plate to print the T213.
Very interesting.

Wishing you a and your Family a very MERRY CHRISTMAS

This Munson is a major card in the context of the 1970s, but mine was only a few bucks!

As a bonus it came with a piece of a different card!

Some would say this is a wrong back Gumbert; I prefer wrong front DiMaggio

Not exactly the 1941 Play Ball pose, but a lot less expensive!
