Default 54 Topps - Such an appealing set

Something about the 54 Topps set, it just checks all the boxes for me. Great card design, key rookies and just a cool nostalgic feel to them. I often wonder why this set does not have some of the excitement levels of comparable sets with others. Possibly due to lacking a few stars, namely Mantle.

Nevertheless, it’s been a great set to collect and very manageable to near complete so far. I use it as a break from my 52T card hunt, keeps my addiction fed.

Feel free to share some of your 54T cards, I’d love to see what others have!

-Bill

I love the '54 Topps. I once owned a solid Jackie Robinson but I sold it back in '13. It is a mistake that I have to live with everyday. LOL!

54 Is a beautiful set, you also in a way, benefit from it not having Mantle, because it makes it much easier to afford and complete. I have to fix my scanner, I'll update with a post of my 54 Aaron!

Soooo many memories with this set

One of the first 3 cards my Dad bought back in '80 when we discovered our first card shop. Dad trimmed it to fit in his fresh new 9 pocket pages!

Got this Ford for Christmas in my teen years (late 80's)

The Aaron rookie Mom "snuck off" at a card show to get for me Christmas 1991

Berra my wife (girlfriend at the time) gave me for our first Christmas together 1996. Yeah she is a keeper!

Kaline form my only ever "find/purchase" a few years ago

One of my late Father's cards and one of his faves

Attachment 434685 One of my favorite 54's! I have a "normal" Aaron RC and the Mays 54 but those are not handy at the moment.

Lasorda passing away added some more oomph to this set too. The run on his cards yesterday actually showed how the market isn't always efficient. Cause at his age, he'd already lived an incredibly long and full life, and held on longer than you could ever expect.

But it was like people completely ignored his place in the game's history (as far as his '54 card) until he was gone

The 54 Topps set is one of my favorites. I'm putting the set together in Vg to Ex condition if anyone has any commons they are looking to unload.

And SPMIDD's Robinson found a good home as it's part of the set I'm putting together (although it is probably closer to NM).

Ya know, I've always rated the '54 set lower than most of the '50s Topps sets. Something about the missing top border (I'm an engineer) and the mixture of color and black and white photos. But......it is growing on me and I think the more I see of the cards together, the more I'm coming around.

On another '54 note, one of the main cards from the set that I did not have was the Ernie Banks RC. However I was recently digging through some long, lost cards and came across a zip-lock bag of '50s Topps and Bowman cards that sometime ago had sustained water damage. In that pile was a Banks, or what was left of a Banks. Per another thread that showed a PSA 3 '56 Aaron, I'm hoping for at least a '2' on this one.

Default 1954 Topps

Is anybody actively working on the set? Trying to find other set builders with extras to trade, I'm looking for EXMT ungraded on commons and graded on stars.

Thanks,
Mike
