Default OT, but not totally - Don Carter ("Mr. Bowling") Obituary

Don Carter's obituary in today's Washington Post. http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...whP_story.html
I remember watching him bowl in tournements on TV in the late 1950's-early 1960's when I was a teenager and my buddies and I got interested in bowling. There is a bit of interesting baseball info in this obit.

Default Bowling was my sport....

Very sad to read of the great Don Carter's passing. I bowled at many of his All-Star lanes and found them generous to a left like me.
I grew up idolizing Don Carter and then Earl Anthony. RIP to them both, and they are bowling in Heaven with Billy Welu announcing ...... is Chris Schenkel gone, too?
Saturday in the winter/spring at 3pm was the Pro Bowler's Tour. We bowled Junior league in the AM, then had lunch and watched the PBA followed by a night of more bowling.
Sundays were for card shows!

Being long time bowler for many years (Jrs and as an adult) I'm sorry to read this...he was a giant in the sport. Maybe now he's up there knocking down some pins with Earl and Dick Weber too!

For thos who grew up in South Miami in the 1970's and 1980's remembers Don Carter well. Went to Junior High School within few blocks of his lanes, the Don Carter Kendall Lanes. We used to go there as part of our PE class. Used to bowl there all the time.
I was in Miami this weekend and heard he has passed away. Sorry to see that. His name is part of my childhood memories as well as his bowling alley.

Here is a commerical:
