Default Virtual Card Show, Hoops Style

Like on the main forum, let's do one a day per poster. I will start with this highlight of my collection:

My favorite Wilt card and probably my favorite childhood basketball card. I vividly recall getting it in a collection of cards in the mid-1970s.

If Wilt wasn't enough to get me to start building this set this helped make the decision as the 2nd card for my set.

Great Thread Adam. That is a sharp looking 69 Wilt you have. The "BiG O" is one of my favorite players.

Great stuff; let me bring the quality way down:

For a season or two Slick Watts was my favorite player. I don't know why. Maybe the nickname, maybe the slick at a time of gigantic 'fros, maybe the headband. Just one of the guys from your childhood that you like for no particular reason (along with baseball pitcher Wilbur Wood (I played Little League with a Wilbur Wood model glove), football player Garo Yepremian, and hockey player Pete Mahovlich).

I like the printing anomalies for this set. Especially when I can get cards for under a dollar.

Earliest card of HOFer Clyde Lovelette, from the 1952 Olympics.

Another card I got for about a dollar. A centered one would have not only cost more but just wouldn't be as interesting.

My 1957 Topps "partial" set (79 of 80) missing #77 Bill Russell RC. Fun to dig these out tonight, and to be honest, I'm surprised the condition is pretty nice compared to some cards in my collection lol.
I'm not going to pay $5,000+ for a Bill Russell RC, so one of these days I'll buy one of those five dollar reprints on eBay.

1961 Fleer "partial" set missing four cards:

(low grade prices)

#8 Wilt Chamberlain RC $3,000
#36 Oscar Robertson RC $2,200
#43 Jerry West RC $1,600
#47 Wilt Chamberlain IA $750

(looks like more reprints for me)

I do however have the lowest grade #10 Bob Cousy card I've ever seen

I've got the "near set blues" 1948 Bowman missing three high numbers:

#55 Max Zaslovsky RC $75
#58 Arnie Risen RC $75
#69 George Mikan RC $2,500

Picked this card up several years ago. Wish the back was as nice as the front.

When I was in college at Houston I had a job doing the p.a. and/or electronic scoreboard for the women's varsity basketball games. Through that job I ended up spending one Sunday afternoon working as the scoreboard operator for an ABC televised NBA game between the Pistons and Rockets at Hofheinz Pavilion on campus.

I found myself one seat away from the guy doing the color commentary, none other than Bill Russell. Other than his saying "Hello" to me (and everyone else working the table) I had no interaction with him. And I knew better than to ask for an autograph. He was a notorious non-signer back then. But it was a cool thing to be that close to a legend, especially a Celtic legend like Russell. If I had a rooting interest in an NBA team growing up, the Celtics were it. The Boston-Los Angeles playoff rivalry was worth watching even if a lot of the NBA wasn't.

1971-72 Topps Trio set. According to the SCD article (link below) these were inserts in regular 1971-72 Topps basketball wax packs. I picked up the full set at the National a few years ago for $100 which I thought was kind of steep. I visited the dealer a few times and he wouldn't budge on the price. Finally the last day of the show I hadn't spent all my money and the set was still sitting in his binder so I forked over the cash. Glad I did now.

The color Kahn’s basketball cards are my favorites. Here are 3 of the big cards. I only need the elusive Lucas windows closed that I’ve never seen.

I spent a lot of time during the pandemic digging out boxes and organizing my collection. Found the stickers and was missing more than I thought. Then again I also found an index card box that had all kind of stickers that 12 year old me pasted stickers on.

Down to two of the ABA ones to finish (I had no ABA stickers in my collection)
