Default W600 Cy Young

Posted By: Bryan

I remember seeing a W600 cabinet on ebay a few days ago but for some reason I am unable to find it anywhere again. Did anyone see this and what did it end up selling for? I wanted to buy it but forgot to place my bid. Now I can't locate it - I'm sure that the auction is over by now.
- just curious -
Thanks

Hi Bryan, I wanted to bid on the Young too but was too distracted by work at the time to remember when it was ending (it ended yesterday btw). Much to my frustration, it only went for $200 - to Andy Baran I believe.

I believe Runscott was the seller. It sold for a little over $200. A huge bite was taken out of the upper left portion of the card.

Damn, I wish I could have remembered to look for that one before it ended. I would have paid more than that. Congrats Andy, if you indeed did win the cabinet!
I have been looking for W600 to add to my collection. Welp, I guess the search goes on

With the huge hoard of w600's lipset just auctioned off, there should be a few more w600's offered in the coming weeks. I went together with a three other board members on a lot of 4 hofers and came away with a nice looking Lajoie. Missing out on that Young still stings though, so feel your pain Bryan Good luck with the hunt.

edited to say that Scott Brockelman was the seller.

I am the lucky winner of the W600 Young. I'd like to thank everyone for forgetting to bid. I thought it would go for much more, and was surprised that no one tried to snipe at the end. If it makes you feel better, my high bid was more than 2 and a half times what I ended up paying for it (sorry Scott). I was interested in the card because it uses the exact same early image as the 1893 Just So Tobacco Cy Young, even though it wasn't issued until 1902. There are very few vintage Cy Young cards in existance where he doesn't look like a bloated old man.

Can we expect to see this restored as well?

Why not, it's already been eaten?

I guess the cost probably would not be justified in this case though, correct?

Hal, you are correct. It doesn't make financial sense, as much as I would like to see it complete. I could BUY a NrMT example of this card for less than it would cost to restore it correctly.

I had a nice Cy Young in my 130+ Lot of W600's. It wasn't the one that Scott sold here though. This one is one of the '1902s' where it identifies him 'of the club of 1902' and the one I had had no year identification and the white graphics on the bottom, not the brown. I'm not sure I'd seen this one before. Guess Scott had a better condition duplicate or he wouldn't have sold this one.........think he always has some dupes to purchase as he's actively collecting them.

Here's a nice Young from 1890's.....

i wish the bidders had shown up on auction day, andy got a steal on this one, even in it's condition. however i am glad he got it as we go back a few years in collecting and i know it found a good home.

as andy pointed out this is an early image of cy young and one not used on most of his playing era tobacco and caramel cards. most of which are the boston uniform portrait.

and as tom pointed out this was a dupe and i had the same pose/text on a much nicer one.

scott

Stop flaunting that Pepsin Pin. I wish that I had never traded it At least it has a good home with an owner who cherishes it.

you didn't do too bad with that Delehanty. From a $$ standpoint I think you came out in the upper end from what the Delehanty OJ's been selling for now. I do like the Young pin though.....
