Storing Older Sets
This doesn't necessarily fall into the Pre WWII category, but I figured there would be some knowledge regarding the subject in this forum. I'm extremely close to completing a 1963 Topps set. A handful of the cards are graded, and I'll leave them as they are. I've placed the non-graded HOF / star cards in rigid holders, but my question lies with what is the best way to store the remainder of the set. It's currently housed in a binder with BCW PRO 9T sheets.
Is it ok to leave it in these sheets long term? If so, should it be stored vertically (like vinyl LPs) or flat? If the binder is a bad idea, any suggestions as to a better method? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

Personally I like the sets in the binders, but if this is a high grade set I wouldn't advise it. The top corners tend to come out of the pages and get nicked up a little.

+1... if protecting high quality cards is the priority, I'd choose something more secure, too, especially if you thumb through the pages often to enjoy them. Dropping them in soft, penny sleeve and into a rigid or semi-rigid card holder might be a better idea.

I don't like binders for the reasons skelly mentioned above - top corners tend to come out of the pages and get nicked up a little.
I just use a Card Saver (well, actually the Ultra Pro equivalent) with no penny sleeve. Then the cards are stored in a vault box. If there is any extra room in the box, I use wadded up plastic bags to fill the void. |
