Default Let's compose a 1933 Goudey virtual set

The 1933 Goudey set was printed on ten 24-card sheets for 239 cards (#144 Ruth was double-printed).

The 10th sheet is very interesting, in that it is the "World Series" sheet. The 24 players in this series are
from the Washington and New York teams in the 1933 Fall Classic.

Goudey played a nasty trick on the kids collecting Goudey's in 1933, as they didn't print card #s 107-114
and #121-127 until this very last sheet (issued in November of '33). Just imagine how many Goudey Gum
packs were purchased trying to find these cards and #106 (Lajoie) in the Summer of '33 ?

World Series players (10th sheet in Goudey set)

I will start this virtual set with 7 of my favorites.

Show us your Goudey's and let's see if we can display all 239 cards.

Any consideration to starting over again, and posting the cards in order?

Otherwise, there will be duplicates and gaps...

Though your suggestion makes good sense I am not sure how it would be accomplished?

Frank W made a good point on the 1st page of this thread regarding avoiding (or at least minimizing duplication).
To that end, I will attempt to keep a running checklist as the images are posted.
I did exactly this about a year ago when we composed a virtual 1941 Play Ball set.

Any attempt to try and complete this set in numerical order would discourage the spontaneity of the posts; and,
I'd bet that we would fall far short of 239 cards.

I love this set more than life itself!!

Most of my '33 Goudey set would grade out around PSA3. Thanks to both Jeffs for posting those near pack-fresh beauties. You could shave with that Ott.

In my opinion, the "coolest" image in the entire set. I acquired this one back in 1984, when
Goudey's were reasonably priced. It was my 1st 33G and started me on completing this set.
I most likely could not afford to put together a comparable set in the current market.

Default Pete Jablonowski....a.k.a. Pete Appleton

"Strange things are happening".....OK, you trivia buffs.....who used to say that on TV ?

Anyhow, Pete Jablonowski's major league career started in 1927 with Cincinnati. In 1932,
pitching for the Newark Bears, he had an 11-1 (W-L) record. And, batted .300 helping the
Bears win the International League pennant.
The Yankees were very impressed with him and brought him up for the 1933 season. At the
end of that season he married Aldora Leszcynski. She insisted he change his name since she
didn't want to be called "Aldora Leszcynski Jablonowski". So, he changed it to Pete Appleton.
The change appeared to help his pitching career. He had his best season in 1936 with Wash-
ington....winning 14 while losing 9.

Default 1933 Goudey set

Jack Quinn started pitching with the New York Highlanders in 1909. He enjoyed a long Major League
career. Here Jack is in the 1933 set pitching for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jack Quinn is the only active
ballplayer to be in the T206 set and the 1933 Goudey set.

Default Let's complete a virtual 1933 Goudey set

Thanks for your input, guy.

Looking over the tally list of the Goudey's....we have 140 cards accounted for.
This is a little more than a 1/2 complete Goudey set.

It would be nice to see 99 more cards. However, I realize that many of these
99 cards are just commons; and, most of you collect the stars. Therefore, I
do not expect that we will complete this set here.

In any event, it's a great set that does not quite get the respect it deserves
on this forum.

Let's try at least to achieve a 3/4 complete set.

Thanks,

T-Rex TED

Default 1933 Goudey color printing errors

My Manush (batting) is missing the BLUE color pass.

Let's see some of your Goudey's that are color mis-prints ?

Default 1933 Goudey set

I really did not think we'd come this close to completing this set with all these images.
I want to thank everyone for contributing their time and scans.
And, to "milkit1" for the 200+ inputs.

I'll post the updated tally later tonite,

Here are 2 more off of the list. Man, I've been meaning to scan these individually and this is forcing me to get some of them done.
