Default Warning? [1909] Pirates postcard

From 1908-11, there was no 'h' at the end of Pittsburg.

Not trying to out the auction - if I felt it was legit to 1909-10 I would be bidding very reasonably, so no one would be getting this cheap. But that 'h' at the end has be concerned...if only the moths had nibbled it off.

The H was present during the 19th century, so someone might have made that mistake back in 09. But the black and gold is anachronistic. Pirates were blue and red back in the day.

The attached pennant looks intentionally damaged...see what looks like scissor cuts on the left edge...the postcard though looks like a legit 1909 era postcard. I think someone added a later pennant to the postcard.

Here's one that sold in REA last year. It also has the "H" in the map section. FWIW, I've seen both H and non-H on many items during that time. I did some research on it a while back. THere was a one year period where the city voted to remove the H but it didn't last long. You have to imagine a short time ban on the H would not have been pervasive and things would have been produced with both spellings.

Jaybird,

Nice find... I was thinking it looked legit to me... One thing is - there is a line on the left side of the post card / edge of the pennant in the original post - to me it is showing where to line up the pennant so that it is glued on straight.

I've seen other examples of both the "h" and those colors being used during that period. Maybe Yellow and Black were some sort of "city" colors for "The Smokey City".

Good example, Bobby. The postmark shows no "H".
