Default Any interest in 1970s

I picked up a large collection of 1970-1981 Topps and was curious if there was any interest. If there is interest, I will sort them. Just looking through (and not putting in order), I know there are stars, multi-player cards and more. They appear to be in Ex condition on average with some in better and some in less condition.

Just curious if there is any interest in trading for them before I go through the process of sorting and cataloging them.

I would surely be interested, hopefully for trade. Especially 70, 71, 72 high numbers. I am working on 70-74 topps sets right now. My lists are at wwesmyster2cards.webs.com , let me know, and thanks.

Default 70's

Seems like there is a lot of interest in 1970 and 71. Somewhat less for 1972-75. Not much at all for 76-79. I can take a 5000 count box of 76-79 to a card show and try to sell them for a dime each and I'm lucky if I sell a couple of dozen and nobody will pay $40 for the entire box.

I need some Nolan Ryan cards from the 70s if you find any.

I will check and see what high #s I have. Not sure where the high # series starts, but I will look it up and find out. Thanks for the comment.

Yea, that's what I'm seeing. I am working on sets 75-79, so might be apprehensive about moving them. I just picked up this collection to use as trade bait for my 61 set. But it's not quite working as I had planned. I paid $40 for 2 notebooks worth (about 2,500 cards) because I thought it was a pretty good deal for that many cards from the era. But I am starting to see I paid too much.

I found about a dozen Nolans, but I keep him. He's one of the hot sellers in this area since we're between Dallas and Houston. So, his stuff will be sold at my store or traded for more PC stuff at another store. Sorry.

Default Rick's Columns Mirror my experience

At our local card show in Dallas.

I move pre-1970 cards at every show and a decent amount of 70-73's and almost nothing in 74-80. and the only cards I bring in 1974-80 are better players. In fact the May show was the 1st time I ever had decent sales out of the 1974-80 box as I had a Red Sox collector go through those cards.

Thanks for this information. I didn't like my Dallas show at all (I set up in the Feb. show this year). I had picked up a few Cowboys and Rangers on the side, and didn't sell a single card of either of those teams. People were looking for Bryce, Lebron, RGIII and Luck. So, it was a waste of my money and that's why I haven't set back up again.

I put all my 1970s cards in a box at my antique mall and just put 15 cards for $1 on the box. We'll see what kind of bites I get.

Default For whatever reason

Cowboys, Rangers, Mavs and Stars do not sell well here locally. If you did the February show at Craig Ranch in which BGS set up,that was a real good show and I've done well with my card mix ever since.

What I do is bring Cowboys, etc but do not display them with the lack of local interest. I also checked with my LCS and he does not do a big business in local cards either.

Maybe in other areas there is a local premium but here in DFW not really much of a local interest in cards. Heck one of the two promoters of the Craig Ranch show (the one who specializies in more modern cards) told me as of May 1 he had never sold a Yu Darvish card.

I have a little side project going collecting the Topps All-Star Rookies (you know, the ones with the Trophies on them) from the 60's and 70's. It's fun/cheap and holds my interest when the collecting funds are low. If you run across any of those, feel free to shoot me a PM. I'd probably be interested.

Thanks

Default They still do the trophy card today

It is a cool project and one I would continue to the present. Reason is those newer cards are not that expensive and you can keep a tab on the more modern deisgns as well

Thanks Rich. I do keep up with the "shiny" ones too. This past years crop looks pretty promising - Harper, Trout, Darvish, Rizzo, etc. Can't help it though, but for some reason I love the late 70's era. It doesn't get much better than Bake McBride and Mark Fidrych for me (just to name a couple).

Thanks
- Jason
