What does everyone think the final price of the tinker chicago/cubs jersey error car will go for in the rea auction.

Add your guess.

Real nice looking card but the big spot of paper loss on the back is what
caused the lower grade.

I must say this variation has grown on me...it is quite interesting. As far as hammer...who the hell knows with the lunatic tendencies of T206 collectors.

Also, I remember when this error was first introduced a few years back on the board. Opinions were rather split.

take a guess then...?

i think pricing is all over the place right now. i don't see the previous results helping this much. it could go for way less or it could go for way more.

it might help people determine how to bid but ultimately i don't think it will shape opinion of price. the price is in the eye of the person who wants it.

i'm predicting the card goes down in value some as the two people that wanted this card the most are now out of the way.

im going with 13k. i suspect there are many more of them out there and the market will continue to get introduced to new specimans. where is there information on this card being fake and destroyed?

kevin

i read it. interesting for sure but i don't think there is anything in there which debunks the validity of this card. there is also nothing that really explains it either.

the thread also doesn't mention the destruction of any cards....where did that come from?

If you look at a number of Tinkers you'll see that some of the normal ones have traces of Chicago showing. Not solid like these three, but visible.

I think it's an early correction, and one that was done twice. Once quickly and not completely. Then done right later when they had the time.

People are still doing their tabulations for this one, Pete. Look for a flood of predictions any minute now.

i was half noticing this in the image in the other thread. was wondering if my mind was playing tricks on me or if the chicago was uber faint or not.

give it another look. i have a piedmont 150 back and there appears to be remanants of an O when you look at it as well.

if the ink colors are different then this could just be a bi product of over inking bringing it out???

Nope, not overinking. That's usually smeared.

I haven't seen a really good scan of most of them, but the colors usually have a couple different layers. So I think the order of the cards was
Chicago and cubs overlaid. Chicago in gray, cubs in brown.

Chicago removed from the gray plate, but remnants showing in one of the uniform colors - probably black since the lettering often has either an outline in black or the black dot pattern is removed where the lettering will be.

Whatever color - Black?- redone to remove the traces of "Chicago"

The more I look the more odd stuff like this I run across. Most of it is very trivial, but some is a bit more obvious.

I have a maybe card that shows a possible similar remnant of a removed bit of uniform lettering. But it's in rough shape, and I'm really unsure of it. I've been looking for months, maybe a year? for a second copy. I'll probably give up and post it eventually, but the amount the Tinkers have sold for makes me keep looking.

I think the tinker will end up closer to the 33 thousand. If it was all that available they would have been everywhere once the first one sold for $18K
The only thing that would hold it back is uncertainty about more showing up.
Until the number of known copies settles out it will probably be a bit erratic.

And of course it doesn't have the story to go with it that some of the other expensive ones have.

Wagner- The whole kids not buying cigarettes/ not being paid thing.
Plank - The broken plate
Doyle- discovered then quietly hoarded by a well known sort of pioneer dealer.

Tinker? - Found by someone, posted online, debated, shown to more experts, mixed reviews, then sold for a nice price all things considered. Second copy sells for double....

There's just no "romance" to it.

But if the number of known copies stays under 10 it will probably get most of the way to the price of the Doyles.

The day that Tinker variation approaches the value of a doyle variation...will be the day I eat my shorts!

the more that surface.. the cheaper they will go... the super wealthy collectors will have their examples first... but if 15 more are introduced... you will see prices go down.. this is a 5K card.. imo

Interesting. I think this qualifies as a legitimate variation and not just a printing error. I think more will turn up in time and the price will drop.
