Default Looking to build 1978 Topps set from scratch DONE! thank you to all

So in reading some of the latest threads on how we all got into collecting I remembered that in 1978 my older brother had a terrible accident and was hospitalized for two weeks. Our Associate pastor brought him a box of 1978 Topps cards as a gift. We were a family with very little and neither my brother nor I had ever even seen a baseball card before.

For three years I look at, flipped, read and reread, studied and played with these cards until we were able to afford to get some ourselves at the local market.

I related this story to my wife and she suggested I build the set from scratch. I told her I could find a complete one cheaper in the long run but she insisted to do it like I tried, unsuccessfully, as a kid. (Gotta love my wife and her support of me)

Drew
FINSHED! Thank you to all how helped me take this journey down memory lane

Let me know what you need after those two guys are done with you. I'm currently building a second set so if you want to get almost all of them at once I could send a set minus these:

2 RB, 5 Rose RB, 6 Ryan RB, 7 Jackson RB, 34 McCovey, 36 Murray, 40 Yaz, 60 Munson, 72 Dawson, 74 80 98 100 Brett, 159 200 Jackson, 203 215 232 259 282 Yankees CL, 286 289 302 320 342 350 Garvey, 370 379 411 413 Jackson WS, 441 451 460 Hunter, 480 510 Stargell, 526 530 Winfield, 540 Carlton, 551 620 633 652 659 670 686 Perry, 707 Molitor/Trammell, 724

But I also have other dupes.

Ted

I just wanted to update this thread and say thank you to all those who have offered to donate to this little trip down memory lane. I have received a good many PM's from folks offering lots but am still looking to build this set. Even if you have a sizable lot I might be willing to make a deal on it. I am thinking about building a 2nd set, or at lease a good starter to give to my brother. After all they were really his to begin with. He isn't a collector but I know he would enjoy flipping through them like the good old days.

A funny story about this set. I remember trading away a Nolan Ryan for an Ed Ott because I thought Nolan was a weird name and Ed Ott sounded cooler to me.

Great times. Please PM me with any other lots and what you might want for them.

Thanks again,
Drew

So I just wanted to update this a bit. I have over 500 of the 78 set one and am closing in on it thanks to many of you. I still need some of the stars though. I am looking for the Eddie Murray rc, Paul Molitor rc and regular Nolan Ryan cards. If you have any or all three for a good price please let me know. I would take them I lower condition to keep the price down so any shape card would be considered. Let me know what you have and maybe I can get a bit. Loser to finishing this set.

Drew
