Default Good shows/shops in Las Vegas area?

Hello people of net54. I live in Southern Utah, about 2 hours from Las Vegas. I am wondering if anyone can point me to good shops or shows and even private dealers/collectors in the general area. I collect mainly pre 60s and also all of that good prewar stuff. Also who to stay away from???

I lived in Vegas from 1996 thru 2001, the only shop I found had new cards, no vintage.

I suggest reaching out to Leon, the Forum Owner. Let him know what you collect, and see if he can give some direction towards other members. You should also check the B/S/T section and see who is offering what you are interested in, and follow up with Leon about their reputation. I have done that myself a few times, and never had a problem with transactions. Leon is a great resource and starting point for you.

Brad, the BST is a great place to start if you're looking to expand your collection. Just be sure to exercise due diligence. It only takes a few minutes to look at a member's history, and it's worth your time.

If somebody's been a member of Net 54 for a while, and they've done prior transactions on the BST, you should feel confident in proceeding. The members of the forum do a pretty good job of policing that section, and if somebody's caused trouble (ie not followed through on their end of a transaction), their privileges will be revoked. If it's a newer member, I'd check their history to see if they've done any transactions here, and how those went. I'd also look at their EBay id if they've made that known. If I can't find the answers I need, I either won't enter into a transaction, or if I do, it will be a small transaction where not a lot of money is being exchanged.

I've followed these rough guidelines, and have never had an issue. If you look at my signature, I've done several transactions, and all of them have been great.

If you're looking for dealers, the 'dealer sites' portion of the vintage links is a good place to start:

http://www.net54baseball.com/forum/c...tagelinks.html

Also, Old Cardboard has a list of vintage dealers. There are a lot of dependable sellers on that list.

http://oldcardboard.com/ref/ebay-sel...ay-sellers.asp

I've been to Vegas many times, but I'm not aware of any vintage dealers in the area.

Hope this helps!

Bill

Click on their user name, and view their public profile. Then, go to the statistics tab, then click the links for 'find all posts by', or 'find all threads started by'. That's useful to see if they've been active on the BST.

Another thing you can do, Brad, is do an advanced search.

Go to search, select advanced search. Then, under search by user name, start typing their name in. That user name will show in a field with other users. Click the specific name of the user you want. Underneath that you can select to find posts by that user, or threads that user has started. Then, go down to 'search in forum', and click the Net54baseball buy/sell/trade, and make sure also search in child forums is checked. That will show all the posts made by that user, or the threads started by that user, on the BST. I believe that defaults to the last year. If not, you can change the date parameter on the left side under 'find posts from'.

You can also specify to search one of the sub forums only, like the T206 BST, for example. Instead of highlighting the Net 54 NST, you can click the T206 BST, and it will look only in that specific board.

Hi-
There are a couple of card shops in Vegas that might have pre 1950s stuff. One is called something like All Star Sports Cards and it is off the strip, in a shopping plaza. They sell a lot on eBay, but I did buy a Remar Casey Stengel and have looked at some T206s and Zeenuts they have had over the years. Another possible option is the card shop featured on Pawn Stars. It is in downtown, very close to Las Vegas Boulevard.
I do recommend checking out some of the antique shops if you have time. Red Rooster is one, but I forget the names of any others. Some of the better ones are in some of the seedier sections of the city.

Alan
